Very close to driving a 2005 QP but wanted to check a few things with the good folk here. It has 30,000 miles on the clock.

Is there anything to look out for with this particular model given it's on five years old and way outside the warranty period?

The one I drove felt solid and the engine was an absolute peach but when we pulled into the gas station, the petrol cap wouldn't open? Dealer grumbled something about a burned fuse. Minor, but needless to say, got me thinking what else may be possibly wrong.  Is there much difference between the Duo  Select and the ZF transmission? I drove it at low speeds in full auto and it seemed fine.

I understand the clutch needs replacing on these models every so often.

Anything else I should be aware of (major servicing imminent)?

Many thanks.

These cars are very strong, and some recently for sale are showing 100,000 miles. The engine, in various forms, has been in the 4200, Gransport and now the QP. They have been running since 2002 with no design faults apparent.

Cluches will wear more in AUTO mode, but I have 40,000+ on mine and still only 60% worn.

I would STRONGLY advice you have a inspection done by someone who knows these cars [Not the AA or RAC] as any niggles can be found then rather at your expence in 4 months times...don't let the dealer blab on about warranties, they only cover major breaks not wear items and so many will wriggle out of a pay-out.

A proper Indi inspection will let you know how much life is left in the clutch as well as other items...remember this was a £80-100k car when new, so expect that any repairs will be in that league.

Hi, I don't know if this will help but when I purchased my QP I had the same problem regarding the fuel cap but it was due to the battery was on it's way out, once a new one was fitted the cap was fine.

Just to add, these cars run the battery down if not used often due to systems remaining active after the ignition is turned off including the satellite tracker. When I first got my car (over two years ago now) in the first few months I was getting error messages on start up that disappeared after the next start. I was only using the car at weekends and not doing too many miles due to the cr@p weather. I started putting the car on a trickle charger and since then no error messages appeared. I think once the battery is low and you start the car some systems get starved of power and it generates an error which actually is a false negative. Anyway last 21 months not a single fault (touch wood!).

I have a 06 QP, and it has been the most reliable car i have owned.

I prefer the Duoselect Box over the ZF, the changes are lightening quick and makes for a really involved driving experience.

It take a week or so to get used to it, but when you do, then you will love flapping those paddles. With correct driving technique and attention 40,000 + miles is achieveable on clutch.

Thanks
