Hi everyone,

Hope someone could help me to explain whats going on with the soft top.
In the last few weeks windows and top has been getting stuck:

Windows will go down but wont open again, go down half or close and wont open. Same time roof will get stuck by opening or closing...

Battery has been disconnected and connected, it was working fine for few days then same issue happened. I have replaced fuses for windows and top pump and top locks in the trunk. Pulled back panel behind seats to see if anything got unplugged.
Then I have followed emergency closing procedure as per manual by releasing the pressure valve behind the seat and manually closing the stop. I used buttons 1&2 to close everything properly. Top is in closed position right now. Then tighten the pressure valve back.

But now windows are still down and wont close, while top is closed but wont open with button in the console. Only back pins pull few inches then nothing.

Any advice would be Really appreciate it!!

Thank you,
Dimi

Hi Dimi,

I had a very similar problem on my previous 2002 Spyder.

It turned out to be the cables that operate part of the release mechanism had become stretched and loose so it was intefering with the entire roof open/closure routine.

I took it to the garage and they stripped the interior trim (where the emergency release bolts are) and then with the roof half up/half down they adjusted the cables so that they were correctly engaging and disengaging the bolts and locking mechanism. I gave the cables a very good greasing too whilst they were exposed.

I have a newer Spyder now and make sure I operate the roof at least every 2 weeks or so to ensure that the mechanism is kept in check. So far it has been perfect.

Ray
