Attached is a pix of a 2007 GS M138 Grigio Alferi and Bordeaux with full leather interior - photographed outside a UK car yard. This car is currently being imported into Australia through IMG. They say the spec is: 13,000 klms - no VIN number yet By chance, would anyone know this car, its driving history and more specifically,its service history? Are the klms accurate? If you can't open the pix - here is web link: http://www.internationalmotorgroup.com.au/stock-list.html

Is it definately a 2007?  I think the car was advertised by an official Maserati dealer, Lancaster Ferrari Maserati Colchester.  IIRC, it was £36k but was for sale a while.  Worth giving them a call if you are interested.  Get the last 6 digits of the VIN then call Maserati UK for the full spec.

At $84.5k it also looks like a good price...not a massive margin in it once shipping, marine insurance, GST, LCT, AQUIS, warranty etc etc all built in. Looks like the prices of Australian Maseratis have perhaps dropped as a few more have been imported now.

With FX , freight & other costs that car will land AUD $60-65k

IMG do their own compliance so local costs are neglible. Assuming they acheive the sell price -margin min $15k = 30% return on cost

Ah, I was assuming $15k compliance...much more profitable for them without that! Presumably they pay quite a lot annually to be permitted to do compliance (RAWS?) though?

Do you think Aus prices have fallen in the past year?

IMG do quite a lot of imports/compliance so annual costs amortized over 150 units would not be significant Yes prices for GS have fallen and quite a lot r for sale This is probably the opppsite to the UK As more cars are imported the old price setting thru supply/demand applies Mu guess is 15-20% downward movement

Seriously you guys are tops - great feedback - thanks so much....its due into AUS at the end of January and will get the last 6 digits to check out full specs...dont forget everyone our economy & FX stacked up - so we are benefiting from the $....my concerns also include the Australian spec difference is the, salt rust, cooling system, air-con and obviously the local availability of parts.....anyone from AUS had difficulty with these together insurance finance and re-sale on their 'personal imported' luxury vehicles.....? Thanks again!

-Parts available from UK/USA for approx 1/2 the price of local stealers, more common items readily vailable. Some subtitute (by that i mean rebranded) products are available ie common with Alfa.

-Insurance s/b ok Shannons or Lumleys subject to history & age etc

-Finance cannot comment as most im aware of are purchased outright. Check out b4 commiting as various coys. have different policies on value & imports

-Seen several imports, no visible sign of rust. There is a known bubble rust problem under the rear of each tailight,  minor but expensive to fix -check carefully for any sign or if a patch up job has been done. Also around the guards where stone chips may have exposed the metal

-OZ specked cars are basically the same, one point of note is local delivered cars all seem to have the cruise control as std where as imports may or may not. Can be retro fitted if u can find the part. Imports will need to comply with the local requirements ie child restraints, cats may need to be replaced, new tyres, air con gassed - all should be done by the imported (IMG).

Majority of compliance requirements
:: Brake fluid replacement
:: Fitting of new brake pads if the wrong or worn pads are fitted
:: Fitting of new tyres
:: Reutrn the vehicle to manufacturer's specification (standard) format
:: Complete service (air, fuel and oil filters and fluids)
:: Fit a new catalytic converter
:: Fit an unleaded fuel filler restrictor and Unleaded Fuel label
:: Engine tune and test
:: Evaporative emission test
:: Exhaust emission test
:: Replace seatbelt if worn or incorrectly fitted
:: Fit child restraint anchorages and clip fittings
:: Check vehicle lights (head, brake, indicatiors) for conformity
:: Remove gas discharge headlights and replace with halogen headlights
:: Ensure that the vehicle is in roadworthy condition
:: Fit a Used Import Plate to the vehicle
After leaving the workshop the vehicle may still require internal and external detailing, minor paint repairs, and some minor work to ensure it meets the requirements for registration in your state.

(added compliance requirements)
