Hello.. Ok... this is going to sound a bit crazy.. but here goes... I was given a 224v (1990)..by a friend ( his father had it..wanted to restore it, but sadly passed away.... my mate has no interest in cars whatsoever hence I got it, but then Im not a mechanic, engineer, petrol head ect. not the most technically proficient person in the world and probably the worst person to be given this........... But I like things of beauty!!!!) The car has been laid up for the last 3 years.. the bodywork is excellent condition, Now here is the funny thing... there is no engine...well its in the Boot... so Im lead to believe....(needs new pistons allegedly).... Dumb ass question... Had a look at the car today...how do I get into the boot?... dident see a way in from outside...--as there is no electrics at the moment.... I was a bit sketchy with taking down the back seats... It looked sealed to me.. then I was a bit paranoid of destroying them... (probably an obvious thing.... but back seat is full of junk) Ive got a 50 quid bet with my mate that when we get into the boot there be nothing in there.... just a hunch I have..... If that happens Im up for sourcing one........... please help! pointers please.... approx costs would be helpful.... As the car has been laid up the past 3 years... Im pretty sure alot of other things will need to be addressed.... again advice please.... I fully understand that these things can be a bottomless pit at times, but Im willing to do it.... there are worse things in life that one can be given :))))) Ok... strange....I know All advice appreciated .... thanks Gob

I'm sure the rear end of the car will look quite low due to the weight of the engine. Advice on things to check on the car would be to get it in the air and check the underside for any corrosion. Don't skip on the brake pipes. Next will be to check and service the brakes, new oil, pads, and disc's, and new handbrake cable (if its cable). As for the engine depending on how much your willing to spend. A full rebuild could cost you some very pretty pennies. If your willing to learn then that will save you a fair bit. Pistons alone (if they are genuinely needed) could cost you £400 - £700. Then you will need to replace all the bottom end bearings, bottom end balance, skim the head, replace the seals, head bolts, etc. It sounds like alot of work but if you willing to do it yourself, then its worth it just to learn. Thanks X Edit: Doh! There was paragraphs in there.

hey Gob,

to get in the boot of the 430, I think you'll need the key (there's no mechanical handle or release as such) or the boot-release switch on the bank of switches above the stereo.

Can you post some shots?

Ok... got into the boot...... empty!!!!! (as I thought) this could get very expensive..... so now to find an engine.... (have no way of knowing where previous one is).... looking at a simular car in Italy for sale... might make a trip ... cannibalise it and hopefully end up with something at the end.... thankfully Ive got a mechanic friend who is jumping at the chance to do this.... so Its going to help keep the costs down..... will keep updated

Original would be bestn but a later 6 or even 3200 v8 might go in easily. Alfa v6 or Lanci (hema turbo? Used maser engine could be cheaper thsn rebuildm sounds like it will be great when you finishm Diverdan

Well ironically!! Duncan of England has yesterday bought a 222 4v for parts . Today we had engine all up and running with no faults :) So... I suggest, as all running sweet contact him asking ref for engine and gubbins, As with some tilme tlc and bit of cam/plenum painting will do a great job in yours and far cheaper than putting another cars engine in:)
