I have a 3200GT Assetto Corsa and have recently insured it through Bradford & Bingly Insurance. They are now asking for proof of the vehicle security system i.e. VSIB certificate or a letter from Main Dealer showing the details required. When I applied for the policy I said it was a Thatcham Approved alarm and immobiliser as advised by Autoshield Maserati, but I have nothing to prove this. I have the standard factory fitted system.
Can anybody help?

Hi Mark,

A year or two ago, a member of the forum passed the text below to me as I wondered what type of alarm it had. I believe it is NOT Thatcham approved, due to the low production volume of the car. The forum member said that:

'My friendly Maserati main dealer, Meridien Modena in the New Forest, had originally supplied this text and then they printed this text onto their headed paper which was sent to the insurance company'.

Hope this helps,
Neil

Dear Sirs,
Re – Maserati 3200 – Reg Number
With reference to the above vehicle I can confirm this has the standard factory fitted alarm and immobiliser which is generally accepted by most insurance companies, further details of which are below.
SYSTEM OPERATION
The system is supplied with two frequency remote control handsets containing printed circuit boards included within the key handles. These are matched to the vehicles engine control unit; additional handsets can only be programmed onto the system for the convenience of the client by an official Maserati dealer.     .
The alarm is triggered by door, bonnet, boot contacts and volumetric sensing as well as a fluidic movement sensor, any of which will activate the self powered siren. Two distinct functions of the system are Immobilisation and Alarm. The two elements are totally independent from one another
IMMOBILISER
Passive self arming/disarming - electronic key immobiliser system switches the electronic engine lock system (Called 'Maserati Code') off or on when the ignition key is inserted and or removed, enabling the operation of the engine control unit by exchanging codes
ALARM SYSTEM
Remote arming - by using the remote control devices the alarm is operated immediately, being fully activated after 25 seconds. This action automatically locks the doors via the vehicle central locking system
Visible LED .
The dashboard mounted LED gives visual warning the system is in one of its active states and also provides diagnostic attempted entry information
AUDIBLE WARNING
Audible confirmation of arming and disarming actions is not available, in accordance with the current European regulations
Yours faithfully

Hi Neil

That's very helpful - I'll see if my dealer will type this up on their letterhead.

Thank you very much

Kind Regards

Failing that a call to Maserati UK might get you what you want.

A few years ago i had an Alpina and a similar thing was requested by my insurance company.  I rang BMW UK and I was sent a certificate in the post.

Thanks

Noor

Hi Noor

Think I've solved it now, I got a letter from my Maserati dealer and after quite a few calls and emails the insurance company has decided the factory fitted alarm/immobiliser is at least as good as Thatham Cat 1 standard.
Thanks
Mark
