Hi,

I've had my 3200 GT for a few months now and the fuel consumption is shockingly more than any car I've had in the past, I seem to get about 80 miles for £40 of super unleaded. I'd don't particularly drive hard, just tend to put my foot down to feel the boost kick in (3K-4K rpm) and drive on a mixture of road B and A roads. This equates to 10-11mpg is that normal for this sort of driving? I was kinda hoping that there was a problem with my lambda sensor or something similar which would explain for poor mpg returns. What kind of mpg do you guys get?

Regards

My worst was 150 miles on a full tank - 10mpg; my best on a long motorway run and A/B roads 19mpg. I don't do loads of miles in it so fuel consumption doesn't bother me too much. It's no worse than my last Range Rover and definitely better than the 4.5l TR7 V8 I used to own (8mpg!)

I've had my 32GT Auto for five months and covered 2500 miles. I get around 220 miles until the light comes on which I reckon is about 15mpg mixed driving. It doesn't seem to make much difference if I drive it gently or give it some beans, still 15 ish and worth every penny.

welcome Andrew, what year/mileage is your car

i have had between 12 in town and 23 on the motorway, i am not that surprised that you are only getting 10-11 if you spend a lot of time between 3-4 rpm in 1st and 2nd gear, and third for that matter the turbos do like a drink.

15 to 20 per gallon for me. Mainly short journeys (15 miles), lots of it queued in traffic.

Thanks

I Have a 1999 model with only 35K miles, and has had a lambda sensor replaced in the past. I rarely ever get caught up in start and stop traffic and in 3rd and 4th most of the time. I only hit 3-4k rpm briefly when accelerating, I always try to sit in the highest gear possible e.g. 40 mph in 5th gear.

Judging from other replies, my Mpg does sound right, perhaps what I do in reality and what I think I do is slightly out of sync :-p

I did manage 25mpg on a journey from Birmingham to Winchester once (with 'econ' mode on) and a very steady right foot. Most boring journey ever, and would never do it again, but did make the point to on board work colleague how economical a Maerati can be ??!!??

Normally about 17-19mpg

In the age of environmental awareness is it bad if I say I have no idea?

I fill it up when its looking empty and have no idea about mpg. I filled up a week ago, did maybe over 100km and have 3/4 tank remaining.

18mpg in PTM as an average.

Don't expect anything better than that.

4 miles to the litre at 110p/ltr means 27.5p for each mile... a lot of money but fuel is scandalously expensive, it is in all the old european democracies...

All the old democracies have too easy access to our earnings and so are quite profligate with the huge amounts that come in to the coffers and the takers don't feel the need to be mindful of waste.

The greatest mistake we made was making the taxation take too easy, the money is too readily appropriated from us and too readily squandered.

PAYE has caused waste to become endemic, if you give a child all it wants on demand the child just takes more and more, governments are like that spoilt child and we just stand by watching our hard won incomes ravaged by people who believe that we the great majority want to support the brigades of 'Lesbian Single Mother Telephone Sanitisers' or the numerous QUANGOS that cost us money and by their very existence thwart our own enjoyment of civil liberties.

The Country is at present fooked... and we... the huge majority... have fallen into an ennui that seems to have no end in sight.

Amazing to think that such a huge majority are stymied by a mass of minorities supported by a lying government that profits by doing so.

Macchiavelli stated that to control the powerful [that is us by the way] a Prince [or government] must support the smaller weaker forces [minorities] to ensure that the vastly more powerful are assaulted on all sides, this sways the weaker minded of that huge majority to even start to believe stark staring lies promulgated by these vociferous minorities.

Jesus VBird what a great rant, that must a been building up all the time you aint had tinternet. Kinda like no sex for months , and both arms are in plaster casts  and pow when it happens , my sentiments to a tee, down to every last word and i could talk for hours and add a lot more , Trouble is its happening nearly world over , england is at such an advanced stage, there no turning back even 10 years of good old Norman Tebbit would have problems righting all the wrongs , all one can do is to migrate to somewhere thats ten or fifteen years behind us , but theres a cost to certain luxories there, and compromise is needed hence my urgency to sort  my boys out and fook off to thailand and if i could get round the tax laws there i'd take the masser

Regards loz

I get 18 mpg commuting 35 miles a day mostly on fast A & B roads with plenty of WOT overtaking, capped off with a crawl in to/out of town for 2 miles, so a good mix.  Around 285-300 indicated miles per tank.

I drove back from Bradford to Wiltshire on the m-ways rarely exceeding 80 and it averaged 24, does so if I commute like Miss Daisy too.

But only on Shell Vpower, it's worse on normal mortal s/u, and not worth the saving.

I normally get about 180miles out of a tank. REALLY dont want to calculate the mpg. Best I've ever had is 310miles. Wait for it..... Worst I've ever had was in Spain last year on the new toll roads..... 86 miles for a tank! I actually pulled over after half tank to check the damn cap was on. Must point out this was flat out though.....Was seriously shocked at how quickly the tank emptied! Damn good fun though!

Strewth V_Bird, if PTM is venting fuel vapour into the cockpit, it would explain both your consumption and rhetoric!!

Good post by the way
