Anyone experienced with removing the dashboard? I have major electrical problems, and I suspect the wiring loom between the ignition key and the fusebox.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
John

John,

I removed my dashtop recently as there was a slight rattle I wanted to eliminate, in a fit of OCD!

If you do need to remove the dashtop (I presume this will then give you access to continue removing lower bits as you need to), then this is the process:

1) Remove the horizontal trim  roof panels above the driver and passenger doors - slip your fingers between the roof lining and the trim panel and they just unclip if you pull them gently.

2) The windscreen surround/A-pillar panels also unclip and then pull upwards from the dashboard once released from the bodywork. If yours is a later model, there will also be a screw at the top of the trim panel to remove first (this will be visible once you've removed the roof panels.

3) Once the A-pillar panels have been removed you'll see a securing screw at each end of the dashtop. Awkward to get to - ideally accessed with a right-angled screwdriver or a ratchet.

4) Remove the centre vents - held by two screws visible when fitted, and then just comes out.

5) Under the centre vents you'll find two more dashtop screws - remove these.

From memory, that's it; the dashtop should then pull towards you and upwards - take care when doing this! There is also the sensor in the centre of the dash that you'll need to unplug before you remove the dashtop.

Hope this helps - easier to do than to explain in writing!

The leather covering on my dash had started to crease up due to the sunlight on it, I was going to take it to a trimmer but saw this thread. I bought a can of EvoStick impact adhesive, borrowed my wifes hair dryer ( to soften the leather ) and followed the insructions in this thread to remove the dash top, piece of cake, 1 hour later it looks perfect and cost me a total of £7.87 for the glue and brush to apply it with.

Many thanks for taking the time to post. My dash top is also creased and lifting off the dash. I had planned to take it to a leather specialist, but will be trying your method first.

Did you just glue down the offending parts or lift the whole leather top and then re-glue it completely?

I had very bad wrinkling on my dash, took it off as mentioned here, softened it with Elephant leather preserver as it was very dry. Left it 2 weeks and took to a leather guy to re-stretch and glue. He charged me $300 so probably ripped off for that bit but now almost as good as new.

I peeled the leather back across the whole dash to last point where it was bubbling, used evo stick contact adhesive and followed the instructions about application to the letter. Once the adhesive was applied I stretched the leather back over the dash and clamped it in place with some cheap decoraters G clamps every 8 - 12 inches (put something under the clamp pads that touch the leather to distribute the pressure), I made sure that the adhesive was also on the very edge of the leather that wrapped under the dash edge at the rear. Prior to doing all of this I spent ours applying leather treatment so that once applied and stuck the leather would probably shrink back slightly and remove bubbles where the adhesive may not have taken. In all it took about half a day to do and now looks as good as new.
