For some reason the price is about £10K less than the normal - there's usually a reason and it could be very costly finding out! However, it might just be the bargain of the year!

I'm still certain it's a scam.  No reply, I bet the guy is away, his account has been hacked and this was an ad from a previously sold 3200.

Bit of a late response this, but this was definately a `SCAM`. Reason I know this is because it is MY CAR!!!
I bought the car off ebay and then was horrified to see it still for sale at a rediculous price. I emailed the guy to try and arrange a viewing which of course he could not do, because of one thing or another, until I sent him the full 6K.  I reported this to ebay who removed the ad. Imagine my suprise when it appeard again!! I emailed the guy again and told him exactly what I thought of him and ebay again removed the ad. Rule of thumb here - if it looks to good to be true, it probably is!! I cant believe it but there were actually live bids on for the car!
By the way - a car with 77K on it drives great. I was looking for a car with higher miles on thinking that it shows it must be a reliable and well sorted car. Also as there is a major service required at 60K. So far, apart form the `odd niggle` it has been no problem. However, it needs a new clutch which is costly but is a wear and tear item. I have obtained a factory manual for the 3200GT and a decent local garage are fitting the clutch following the factory procedures - saving over a main dealer cost of at least 1K. Remains to be seen if this is wise or not???
Would be interested in anyones experiences over independant servicing as opposed to main dealer???

Beware the scam indeed.

re: the servicing

On a higher mileage car I wouldn't worry about taking it a marque specialist like Emblem or McGraths but I would be alittle more careful about a non specialist independent. All cars have quirks and a garages experience of the foibles can save an owner thousands in the long run. A well intentioned but misguided independent can cost money, remember most engineers are factory trained not by a text book. Also future value of a car could be effected. Takes 12 hours to change a clutch on a 4200 don't know about the 3200 but I would be wary. Has he done work for you or been recomended by someone witha high performance car?

Wise advice - I have been careful in the garage I have selected. He is known to me and has worked on my previous cars (Merc E55 AMG, Porsche Boxter, Supra Twin Turbo, to name a few). He has quality Professional Liability Insurance policy and allows me to check the work as its being done and source / oversee the parts used.
(This is another subject entirely - Clutch parts off Maserati around 1100.00, if you dig around you can get genuine SACHS parts from the net for 595.00!!!)
The experience / foibles issues is a concern. I am an Project Engineer myself so I fully discussed the job with him and let him look through the procedure before I let him at it. Gray Paul say a clutch change on the 3200 is an 8 hour job. Obviously he is not trained by Maserati but the gear box on the 3200 is a BMW unit anyway!
He also has an eye on the fact that if he does a good job, I may pass on his details to other 3200GT owners - so it is in his interests to make sure the job is right.
The `proof will be in the pudding` and I should get her back this week and I`ll let you know how they did.

Got her back yesterday - cant believe how grumpy I`ve been while the Maz got sorted but I have had to use the wife`s Saab and works truck as replacement vehicles so I guess its understandable!!
Anyway - first impressions are really good, the clutch works a lot smoother than before, I didnt realise how bad it had got! They did have one fit up issue, they missed a couple of retaining screws on the thrust bearing but apart from that the garage say the job was no problem. There were no `special` tools needed and it was a fairly straight forward job. I`ve had the check engine light pop on momentarily a couple of times which I need to keep an eye on and the garage are going to double check any levels / connections which could cause this, after all the gearbox has been out and back in!
Costs.
Total job start to finish 1709.00
If I had been prepared to wait a couple of extra weeks for some parts from Germany I could have got this down to around 1350.00 which is half the cost of Gray Paul standard clutch replacement at 2700.00 so I have still saved a grand
I used `Proven Parts` in Devon to get the drive plate and they were first class - genuine stuff form the manufacturer. Gray Paul supplied the Pressure plate, thrust bearing, clutch fork roller bearings and sundries. They were helpful and not at all `funny` about the use of an independent.
We will see if going `cheap` comes back to haunt me and I will let you know if it does.
I`m based in the East Midlands and if anyone wants the details of the guy I used - drop me a mail.

Top work - will be going the indepenedt route myself for any real work. Will try to keep up the dealer stamps, if only to get the flood of engine management error codes unravelled.
Fitted a genuine Sachs complete clutch kit to my 911 at cost of about £280 compared to specialist proces £500-900. These parts are the real deal.
Would be interested to source suppliers for OEM Maserati parts, not that I will attempt a clutch in this car......

Raven, is your guy in the East Midlands, could be good news for me, I tried a local Italian specialist with mixed results.

This thread about an eBay scam is 6 years old, and Raven was last on here 3 years ago... a bit of an unlikely thread resurrection Richkid!
