Hello everyone,

I have been enjoying your website for the last few months trying to get upto speed on owning / running a 4200.

Today managed my first test drive of a 2006 CC model with 86k miles on it. This was really only to wet my appitite and get a feel for these cars since the garage selling it are more in the market for fords rather than exotics!
Anyway I was really impressed with the performance / gearbox. However in auto mode it was reluctant to kickdown from 6th, from high speed, but would shift down fine on the paddles.
The back end on this car felt vague and almost unstable at speed, assume this is serious bush wear or poor tyres??
The service history was pretty poor too, only 4 stamps in the book and a clutch at 46K, no invoices present.
The car is on Autotrader, in black from a place called ‘Prestige’ located in Birmingham for £18K
From what I have read it needs a service at least every year and then an additional one if annual mileage is over 12K, is this correct?

Does anyone have a 4200 they will be looking to sell in the coming months with a proper full service history, i.e serviced once a year and properly on mileage if required, with invoices to back up and all old MOT’s
My budget is up to £17K for the right car. I'm located in the Midlands but willing to travel for the right one.

Couple more questions, am I just being completely unrealistic on what to expect for this budget? And if the service history is a little patchy is it worth the risk if it has a full inspection before purchase and the price is right?

I’m off to look at another one today, 2004, 50K mileage (record of only 4 services), £18K, in grey, for sale by Prestige Point. again on Autotrader.
Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I'm no expert, and am still just looking around the market myself, but both those prices seem high for cars of that age/mileage; especially with such little service history.

Hi

I have just recently joined this forum today and have only just seen your post. I do have a 4200 and the decision 3 weeks ago was to sell it and upgrade to a Grande Turismo, but have just realised I am not ready yet, sorry. I am enjoying the 4200 too much at the moment.

I think I know the company you are referring to in Birmingham. I did go there to have a look at a 3200 they had last year (2010), but wasn't really impressed with the keep of the car. These cars are lovely precision cars and need to been well looked after especially the 4200s for me. Even though when I purchased my 4200 it was in a fairly good condition, I am still having to spend a decent amount to get it to my standard via a Ferrari dealer. You might well do yourself some good if you have a pre-inspection check before the purchase.

All the best in your search if you haven't found one already, they are wonderful cars.

If you need to have a PPI done on a Maserati in the Birmingham area - Migliore cars are in Bromsgrove and I think they do them and I would certainly recommend them.

You could always try ringing around specialists to see whether any of their customers are thinking about selling their 4200.

Good luck in your search!

Greg, where abouts in Midlands are you? I'm in Herefordshire and work in Worcester, have a 4200 Cambio , 2004 new shape with full MSH, paperwork etc, it is -as far as I/m concerned - the best colour combo of silver paint and burgundy leather, has all the toys and has just done 45k. Clutch etc is good. It is due a service in March and I was thinking of selling it after that to buy a Gransport. If you want to have a look at it in either the above locations, I'd be happy to show it.
