4200 Reverse Parking on Incline

I'm hoping to be the owner of Giugiaro's beauty - the 4200 2005 CC by mid-end January 2012 and have been reading many forums. I really like your forum (I'm in Australia & a female owner - don't shoot me, just help me get there....). I want to ask about reverse parking on an include. I've read a lot about NOT reversing uphill & completely get the message, however does this include reverse parking on a mild incline? I read the post about a driver trying to get their car into friends drive way an approx 60% wear on the clutch...and want to make sure that parking on the street where a reverse incline is my only option, won't cause me similar issues.....

I must say, this is the only thing that makes me a little nervy in my GS.  I live on a hill and if I come home a particular way, it leaves me needing to reverse up hill.  It inevitably ends up burning clucth, I've no idea why.

As a result, I never come home that particular way in the GS. 

Can you not park front on up the hill?

Slow speed parking in reverse or forward is always best avoided. When you do have to do it, be positive. There is a tight T junction where I live, and if you approach the junction which is up hill and you have to turn left, if a car is coming down the road you have to stop halfway out of the junction which results in you stopping on the incline, on the clutch....not good at all and the clutch really stinks afterwards. You soon know how to avoid such junctions and difficult parking situations. Cheers Mike

Thanks guys...I thought as much and just wanted to check. Sadly the driveway into the house has a large dip and I'm concerned about scraping / shattering the cats + wear on the clutch....level ground here we come....!

The reason it eats the clutch is due to the fact it is constantly slipping at very low speeds and in reverse...as such you get a higher degree of wear, and to make you aware you will smell the plates burning.

I had the smell this morning while coming off a gravel drive with a small incline. There was another car to the side that I had to avoid so slow was the only way. I was expecting it and sure enough at the end that smell arrived.

Wrong.

The CC box encourages you to make more gear changes. The clutch is designed to handle the same number of gear changes as a manual, but the paddles make you enjoy the most of the car.

Keep it out of 'Auto' and enjoy a longer clutch life.

Don't really agree with that, if the case, you would be changing gear say 4 times more often, plus most clutch wear is from stationary, not when already in forward motion. When doing a tricky parking, or hill start/reverse, the cambiocorsa slips the clutch far more than if you had full manual control, hence why it stinks. It's extremely rare for any of my other manual cars to have a smelling burning clutch in the same situation. Cheers Mike

I enjoyed 42,000 miles on one clutch, still going strong with only 66%. You slip the clutch in a manual as well, although I accept the CC will do more as described at parking speeds and on first set-off...but then I don't park on hills very often, or reverse up them.
