Hello folks, I am new to this forum, but have been reading it for some time and it has proven to be a great source of information which I have needed for helping to sort out a 1999 3200GT which I stupidly bought cheap on Ebay about 6 months ago. It has had a miriad of faults on it and I think I have got just the stubborn ones left..... One of them is an "Fault Code" problem with my aircon -- its reporting "sensor fault". Here is what I've done.. - Replaced Air con control unit, the one with the auto/low/high etc controls on it - Replaced cabin temperature sniffer - Replaced cabin sunlight sensor... - Outside temperature sensor is apparently working as it shows correctly on the dash. - Have recalibrated the system several times. The error code E4 i.e. sensor fault won't go away, the only respite was when I changed out the Air Con control unit, then the fault changed to F9 EPROM fault AND E4 Sensor Fault which was very interesting!! Does anyone have any ideas - is there a sensor I missed??

Hi folks, I'm narrowing things down. I think E4 is to do with the front dials. I changed out the whole dial/button unit and got the same fault (plus a checksum error, maybe because it didn't recognise the new module). So I'm thinking this is a loom/connector issue or the fault code needs to be cleared by a shop??? I've tried the reset procedure a few times. Many thanks, Zombie

Hi Zombie,

My manual shows that the E4 is indeed related to a discrepancy in the control unit dial settings. I replaced my control unit recently and got no checksum fault codes relating to a different unit, and that was even using a Gransport part number rather than the original 3200 unit (which was more expensive than the Gransport part!!). The new unit worked straight off the bat.

I think you might be on the right track with it being a wiring issue. On mine one of the contact pins at the plug was not a tight fit and was arcing which caused the fault. It required new pugs and some wiring.

Hope this helps...

Neil

Aha! But oh-oh! Theres a lot of pins on those micro connectors - must be about 40 total. Looks like this could be a busy weekend but its getting close to a fix! PS did your aircon work even with the E4 error as mine doesn't -- not sure if its a gassing issue? many thanks for the lead!! Zombie

No mine did not work but it had a couple of other issues as well. I suspect mine may need a re-gas as even after the new control unit it's not blowing cold air. All the functions seem to work, it passes a self test and gives no errors. It's winter on this side of the wolrd so I haven't been in a hurry to rectify it. Will tackle it in the next couple of weeks.

Regards,

Neil

Well here in uk its unusual to need anything other than econ. I go to work and its 13C, I come home and its 15C. I have my aircon set at 17 usually!! So I don't really need aircon either, I just want to be able to press a button and get a burst of Maseratis simulation of January in the Piedmont !! Cheers, Zomb

Well have tried all of the connections and they seem quite ok, so still stumped was considering a loom replacement but after some further research I found an Italian version of the Air Con Fault Diags. The Italian version of the fault diag table is different to the English version. The Italian version states that code E4 is one of two faults due to a sensor fault "SA" - the E4 is an AC/DC fault towards the positive terminal of the battery. I have had a good look around and can't see any sensor "SA" mentioned elsewhere. Could it be the compressor it is referring to - the compressor is a Sanden?
