To narrow things down, would be based in Windsor.

Really interested to know where the good places are and also the ones to avoid.

Hi William, thats not far from me, I am in Wraysbury which is just north of Egham and north west of Staines (M25 Juncton 13). Windsor is only 10 to 15 minutes away...

Living in Wraysbury is great as it offers easy access to all the main routes including A30, M25, M4 and M3. M40 and Heathrow T5 is minutes away T1-4 10 minutes as long as the traffic is not too busy.

Anyway have a good look around because I can't advise on areas to avoid as this is dependent on your style of living and budget. Personally I'd avoid Reading or that part, though I do have a friend who likes it there (cos he lives there!) and drives to Oxford everyday. I like Windsor very much however it can be very busy in the summer due to tourism.

Plenty of nice villages and places to visit.

Also I am fortunate enough to be a minute away from Maranello and when I fancy seeing a new Maserati (or Ferrari) I just pop over there to see my friend James who runs the shop there.

Currently driving around the Windsor area this weekend looking at possible places to stay. Datchet seems nice, will be heading to Wraysbury this afternoon to have a look around.

So if anybody sees a purple micra give me a wave

Staying with friends in Esher and it is one of their cars, honest

Had lunch in the Windsor Great Perk. Very nice and as I was sitting outside really enjoyed watching scantily clad girls walk by! Wife was not amused though

I live in maidenhead.  Which has nice bits.  Otherwise, windsor and eton (not eton wick), henley, marlow, beaconsfield and almost every village are very plesent....and expensive :)

Thanks for the input. Currently driving around looking at different areas. Slough is definitely not on the list.

yes, slough not the nicest of areas... esp since it's the UK home of maserati!

I've got some friends out pangbourne way, it's really nice out there, very rural.
