Hi everyone

On Saturday I take delivery of a black, 54 plate, 4200 GT, and I cant wait!!

I live up in the North East (Newcastle) and wanted to say hi. I'm looking forward to being an active member of the community. Obvioulsy, I cant wait for Saturday to come round, like a kid at Christmas!!

Can I ask, the garage is giving it a full service, has guaranteed parts and labour for 3 months and it comes with full service history. Would you bother with an RAC or AA inspection? Ive been told they are a waste of good money, money needed to insure the car!!

I appreciate your help

Mark

who told you an inspection is a waste of money?

the garage you're buying from??

get one done and from someone who knows the cars ,arguably not the rac or aa.. forwarned is forarmed-you wont regret the (smallish) additional expense.

regards

rob

Congratulations and welcome.

As Rob said, get a good indie to look it over.

Thanks for the advice.

Having never done this before, how do I find an independant in Northumberland/Newcastle who knows about these cars to do the inspection? RAC was somethin like £299 to get it done! Like you both say, I need someone who knows about cars.

Cheers

Cheers Rob, I will drop them an email. Also asked a company called Scotia Vehicle Inspections for a quote. To be honest, apart from the AA and RAC, theres not many advertised. Perhaps its a case of calling a garage and asking, but I think with such a specialist car, most may decline. The one Auto Trader recommends does not do Maserati!!!

Welcome to the forum Mark!

It seems Newcastle will now have two black 4200's as I live just outside Gosforth

As the others have said - I would recommend the inspection first but not too sure where you can get one done in Newcastle - will make a few phone calls and let you know

I'm up and down the country on business a lot so my last service was actually done in Swindon but we will have to meet up somewhere and compare notes

Are you going to Corbridge next Sunday (see http://www.maseratiforum.co.uk/tm.asp?m=28668)?

Hi Micky

Good to hear from you! I was aware there was another black 4200 in the area and I now I know its you!!

I live Forest Hall so not too far from you. I was not aware of the event on Sunday but will have a look into it. All going well I will try to come along.

I agree with you all that the inspection is important. Ive manged to locate a company called Inspectacar - www.inspectacar.net that sound very professional and specialise in prestige cars. The guy is happy to travel from the Manchester area to do the inspection on Thursday. All being well, I should then take delivery on Saturday. I'm confident it will be fine as it looks in mint condition, but I'm no mechanic so need a 2nd opinion. If you do locate anyone else locally, please do let me know.

Would be good to meet to compare notes. Will be in contact once I own it!! How long you had yours and do you still love it?

Cheers, Mark

Hi Darren

You should let us know when you are back in Newcastle, I'm sure Micky and I could meet!

Also an update on the MPP Inspection:

I am delighed to say I had a MPP Inspection yesterday from a superb company:

www.inspectacar.net

Speak to John, he has been excellent for me. I'm buying a 4200, he drove from Cheshire to Newcastle and conducted a 4 hour inspection. You get a full HPI check and then a 13 page report complete with photos.

This guy is great and listens to what you want, not want the dealer wants. I will give you an example. He called the garage and told them what time he would be there. He arrived at 9am but my car was on the ramps getting the breaks serviced. So he waited for 3 hours for them to finish. He called me re an update. He then did the full inspection and passed the results to the dealer (with my permission). I thought this was superb as it meant the dealer was hearing from an expert, rather than me. The dealer has then rectified all the points needed. He found a few minor oil leaks I knew nothing about and a few other issues, well worth the cash.

This is a family company and he travels all over dealing with prestige cars. I liked his attitude and the report was excellent.

If you call him, please tell him Mark recommended you. I dont get commission (promise!!) but I do love to pass on recommednations for people who deserve them.

Cheers, Mark

That's a great result  EVERYONE on here posts how you should get an independent to check the car over but so few ever do it. I wish I had done it but bought with heart not head as I was going to look at a 911 Targa when I saw my car - love at first sight! I actually joined the forum afterwards so that's my excuse

What colour is the leather? I'm hoping for cuio (my colour), it'd look incredible with black paint...

Hi all

I'm delighted to say that I have now taken delivery of the car and love it!

It certainly is a different driving style to what I'm used to, she does not like sitting in traffic, always wanting to blast off!

Did you all find you had to adjust to driving it? Especially the gears, managed to grind into 2nd twice (very embarrising!!!).

I have had my tracker reactivated and I'm looking to get the Parrot installed this weekend. Very happy

I also have to say, this is by far the best forum I have been involved in - previously having used the RX8/R32 ones (the R32 one was cr*p!).

Looking forward to many miles of ear to ear smiles!!!

It was about £260. Speak to a guy called John, tell him who recommended you and that is was from the forum. He will look after you, top guy.

What are you buying and where do you live?
