Ladies and Gents,

A moment of silence if you please. It is with much regret and sadness that recently I learned about the passing of one of the founders of the UK Maserati movement - Bill McGrath. Bill passed away last week, after a brave and valiant fight against cancer.

Bill, founder of the garage bearing his name, was an absolute legend and single handedly kept the marque alive here in the UK for many years. May I take this opportunity to wish his family and friends our deepest condolences and sympathies.

Rest In Peace good sir,

Brian

Even as a relative new comer to Maserati, this news saddens me deeply. Without the like of Bill, many Italian marques would have been lost to the UK years ago.
My deepest sympathy too.

Members of the Maserati Forum

My name is Julia, i am the eldest of Bill McGrath's 4 daughters and i just wanted to thank you all for your kind words about my wonderful father, who we sadly lost just before Christmas.

I have always had a love of the Maserati marque, which has of course been influenced greatly by my Dad. As a child, i had the great fortune to sit in the passenger seat of some of the worlds greatest cars, driven by my father. Maserati is in the family blood, through and through.

I know that he made such a great contribution to Maserati and i for one, am very proud of his achievements.

His funeral was attended by nearly 200 people and i and my sisters were so touched by the wonderful tributes that were paid to us personally about our Dad.

He was a wonderful, kind and simply brilliant man and he shall never be forgotten.

Thank you all again.

Warm regards
Julia McGrath (nee James)

Hello Julia,

A warm welcome to you from myself and all the Forum members here. Many of us will always be eternally grateful for the hard work and effort your father put in to assisting and aiding UK Maserati owners, sometimes through some quite difficult times. I know of a good number of French, European, Scandinavian, and American Maserati owners too who were helped on countless occasions by your father's selfless assistance, and sage advice. He was indeed a true Gentleman, as well as a fine engineer.

I suppose we all deep down wish to leave our mark on the world. Mr William McGrath certainly did that. We were all blessed to have known him. He certainly won't be forgotten and I would like to extend our deepest symapthies and best wishes to you and all your family.

Kind Regards,

Brian Telford

I first met Bill in 1963 when I went to St. Albans for an interview for a job. What a surprise to find out Bill was Irish, being a paddy myself! Interview was short, a few quick questions, one I will always remember; are you handy with the spanners? answer, yes! Job was mine. I soon discovered that Bill was a very special man. His knowledge and understanding of engines was unique; his speciality was fine tuning - no computers back then! I learned so much from Bill in such a short time; I enjoyed eight wonderful years working with him and afterwards I wasn't surprised when Bill contacted me to say he was going to specialise in maserati (lucky maserati!). I know Bill is up there in the heavens looking down with a smile, and by now he's done some tweaking to those chariots in the sky and how much better they must be running since his joining the team. He will be fondly missed. Michael and Carmel, Cunningham Motors, Tralee, Co. Kerry.
