David My tuppence worth if I may. There seemed to be more Italian cars in attendance this year than last, and yet the foot count around the site seemed much lower. It was almost as if there was nothing of consequence to attract folk to the hill and paddock, and it did seem rather thin on organisation which is a shame as Brooklands is a superb venue and there were some stunning cars there yesterday. A couple of points struck me. Firstly, on arrival yesterday a paddock marshal asked what make of car mine was, having not recognised the trident. I don't take offence at that as organisers need all the help they can get at such events and not everyone is a car buff, but it would seem sensible to put the more knowledgeable staff in the main display area if only to ensure that each marque is allocated adequate parking. Secondly the hill seemed to have lost its attraction compared to last year. Perhaps that's because people are wary of blatting their cars up such a rough surface, but could it be due in part a conversation I witnessed in 2009 when two senior hill marshals lost their temper with visitors and vowed that "we're not having this next year" unquote? If you invite people into the site (and make them pay for the privilege) they should be treated with respect, not publicy hectored by stroppy marshals who would rather be elswehere. I know it's an Auto Italia event for which Brooklands is not wholly responsible, but the fact that so many cars left early suggests something was missing, and if it doesn't return both Auto Italia and Brooklands will be the poorer.
