Hello all, I am new to this forum but have had a look at a few pages and see that you are all an intelligent helpful bunch (creeping over...)...I am looking to buy my first Maserati and looking at the GranSport - about an 04 or 05 plate - 2 quick questions.... 1) Things to look for (aside from the worn clutch %) and 2) how much would you put aside for repairs etc per year...i would not be servicing at Maserati (been burnt with Porsche in the past - VERY expensive...) but would use a local 'Italian Car Specialist' who is trusted etc... so prices would be local garage rather than premium dealership.. Also - any other tips - year, extras etc... Many thanks for any assistance - Much appreciated! Andy

Andy,

Welcome to MF.

So, looking for a GS?  Thats a fine choice (though I am very biased!).

There's load on here about what to look for.  Probably the absolute golden rule is get it inspected, ideally by a specialist.  It'll cost you a couple of hundred quid, but it will mean you go in with your eyes open.

In terms of running costs, an annual at a specialist can be pretty reasonable, £4-500.  Larger services when they're due will cost more but will be very dependant on what else needs doing, I'd expect around £1k or so.  Clutches can be good money though so make sure that you check wear as a part of the pre purchase inspection.

In terms of what to look for, if you're going for an 04-05 car, you're most likely going to end up with technical cloth (the seats and dash have a material which sort of looks like carbon fibre on them) - this is seen as an aquired taste.  Personally, I went for full leather, but I can see tech cloth becoming the choice of the enthusiast in future as I dont think its on any other car.

Price wise, these cars are pretty milage sensitive.  I would say that they can take the miles though, so dont be affraid of a leggy one if its been looked after.

If you have a car in mind, post it up on here....there's a good chance someone will know it or will have been to see it, so tis always worth asking.

Good luck in your search and do pop back to ask additional questions.

Cheers
Woody

Cheers for your reply - much appreciated! I am looking for one from Nuvola (based in West London) - I have heard that they are trustworthy. Andy

AP

Nuvola well respected - I bought my previous 4200 there.

As Woody says an inspection is well worth it.

Also plenty of good indie servicing spots around. Where are you based?

Anyway, good luck.

Cheers

Dave
