I have been looking around for a Quattroporte which I wish to change for my BMW 5 series as a daily transport.
Is this a good idea and what should I be looking out for. My Bmw has a service indicator which shows the state of just about everything is there something comparable on a Quattroporte or should I just get it inspected, if so by whom. I am based in Cardiff.

Be prepared for 15mpg. The duo select clutches can be awful so if I were you, drive one first. £30k should buy you a main dealer low mileage car, whereas 25k will but you one private. Look for one recently serviced at Maserati and look at the checklist. Clutch life is also important, Maserati recommend they're replaced when 55% remains, most can be run down a little further but don't let it go too far as it risks further damage. As far as inspections, you'd probably be best to get a minor service done at Maserati in Cardiff ( is it still there ??) as they'll give you a full report on the car.

If you do a lot of A road and motorway driving then it's motoring perfection, if you spend a lot of time in traffic or in town centres, I'd look at different options. I do hope this is of some use to you, I do love them but they have their drawbacks, sold mine yesterday for a far superior Gransport, which will be my second. If you can live with 2 doors then it's by far the best value car out there!

All the best

Not sure about that.  I thought it was more like 75%.

Thanks for the info.Whilst some of my mileage is around town I do a fair amount of motorway driving. I assume that the check list comes with the last service. I already have a two door Bentley which my wife has to exit on all fours if there are more than two of us travelling! So I need four doors and a bit of style!

Hi Paul,

Had mine for just over 10 months now and absolutely love it...
Yes a bit thirsty, but when I am not too heavy on the load pedal, she returns around 19-20...
Yes the duo-select is a bit cluncky around town, but not enough to put me off...
She is a big beast, but you will be amazed and surprized at just how well she handles...
If you need 4 doors, nothing comes close (in my, biased opinon).

Regards,

Enzo.

Hi Paul,
Good luck on Thursday.

A few things worth looking out for:
Should have 2 keys.
Should have plastic credit card sized card with 2 codes.
Should have 4 digit Radio code and seperate CD code.
Should have a leather wallet with owners, entertainment system and service books.

In the boot, if you lift up the hatch you will see a space saver wheel,
this should have a black hard plastic cover and is secured by long bolt with round plastic handle.
If you unscrew the retaining bolt and take off the cover there should be a plastic insert in the wheel which houses the jack, wheel brace and wheel bolt socket.
if you take all this out, there is another hatch...under which is a compartment with a basic tool-kit (towing eye, screwdriver, couple of spanners)...and a compressor.

Not the end of the world if any of this is missing as it is all obtainable (at a cost), but worth knowing what should be there.

Regards,
Enzo.

This is the one I went to see:

http://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/GetDealer.do?did=3882&pageid=3

Somehow the car did not look right at the forward part of the rear wheel arch where a patch of about 1 Square foot was different shade to the rest of the car. It was in the area of of a protective plastic shield but I would not have expected that to affect the colour. It was exactly the same on both sides. I think I would have expected the car to be better than it was for 18k miles
They had no info on clutch wear but all the bits and pieces were there.
I thought the auto drive was c**p but the paddle shift was great fun to drive.
I shall probably leave it and look for one with a specialist or dealer. Thanks to you boys I seemed to know more about it than they did

Paul,

QPs are notorious for stone chips in that area...mine looks dreadful at the moment
sounds like it has been painted before the film was put on, but the colour may not have matched exactly...

Maserati brought out new 'oversize' front mudflaps (a long time ago) but I have only just ordered them and will collect this weekend, hopefull it will stop or at least diminish the problem.

I intend to post old vs new pics once installed and part nos etc for anyone else that is interested.

Regards,

Enzo.

(ps, keep looking...the right one is out there!)

I have just got Dick Lovett to reserve a 2006 (56 plate) executive GT. It waa advertised with 24k miles but has only done 17k miles. One owner supplied and serviced by Dick Lovett and comes with Maserati warranty. Its in Swindon at the moment but they will bring it Cardiff next week. I will report back.

Hi,

I'm driving an 06 plate QP and do about 12k miles a year. Had it for nearly 2 years now and drive a mix of motorway and London traffic and not been put off yet.

Best car I have ever owned and can't see any reason to look at anything to replace it.

Hope you find one soon.

Regards
Graham

I think that is the QP I test drove last week. It's the Executive GT in metallic blue ? Great car but I preferred the Sport GT. If it's the same car, look out for the rear picnic tables which were badly scratched. The guy at Dick Lovett was offering a £2k price reduction though. Car hasn't been prepped yet and had a slight pull to the left under heavy acceleration.I'm sure their tech guys will sort this though. Good luck. This my 1st Maserati and it's amazing...

Just bought the Neptune Blue Executive GT this morning. The picnic tables are bad but they are rushing round for a french polisher to repair them. Apart from that everything looks in first class order. They have sorted the pulling to the left and the auto box is a lot smoother than the others I have driven but it jerks a bit more in sports mode. I won't get it for about 10 days as I need to swap my private plate.

It does not have a phone or bluetooth connection or an ipod connection. Anybody cracked this problem yet and if so what do I need please?

Sorry can't help on the gadget front...I have a phone in mine, but no bluetooth or ipod connection.

Enzo.

My QP has a Nokia Bluetooth Display Car Kit CK-15W which work perfectly with my iPhone and my wife's Blackberry.  It makes the installed phone pointless, but we find it more convenient.

Congratulations on the purchase. I think the pulling to the left would be due to the wheel alignment/suspension geometry. This can easily be corrected and may need redoing every few years. About 9 months ago my supplying dealer sent a letter mentioning a retrograde bluetooth kit for the QP but as I already had the phone installed didn't bother. It may have been the Nokia kit mentioned above.

Is your car an "automatica" rather than the duoselect? If so it has a regular ZF automatic tranmission and doesn't wear in the same way as the duoselect. The other important difference is that the DS(red cam covers) is a dry sump engine, whereas the automatica (blue cam covers) is a wet sump. Duoselect -> check oil level when warm and running, automatica -> check when engine cold and not been run.

hope this helps
