Hi

Started to change the clutch thrust bearing on my 222SR and after few evenings in garage I got finally far enough to pull out the gearbox. But for my misfortune it doesn’t want to come off because there is not enough room for clutch thrust leaver to come past wall between engine compartment and passenger compartment. Gearbox need to come about 1-2 cm more back in order to get it off but there’s just not enough space for it. Is the only way to get it of loosening engine fittings and trying to move engine few centimeters forward or is it possible to take off the clutch trust leaver before taking off the gearbox?

Also if you have any other good advice for job lick this or maybe some hints what parts to check during this job it would be really helpful because I haven’t done anything like this before.

Happy holidays

Hi,

I took a little brake for holidays. But thanks for all the advice. I’ll hope I get the gearbox out before New Year.

Hi,

Gearbox is finally of the car. I managed to get the needed clearance by unbolting the clutch pressure plate.
Now I’m wondering if maybe it would be wise idea for me to change the clutch plate and the pressure plate also, because I’m thinking of doing some engine tuning as well in the near future, so it might be wise to upgrade clutch as well.
It might be useful if someone could tell me how much torque the standard clutch can handle also.
Another issue is the gearbox. When I last drove it I noticed that with second and third gear the gearbox made some clattering noise, especially with second gear. Any ideas of what might be the problem? Also has anyone taken one apart? Are there any extraordinary bearings or something that fore sure has to be ordered from abroad?
Also if you have any information considering the ZF gearbox like how much torque it could handle I would be very interested.
Any tips what to remember when butting it all together afterwards or ideas of what should be changed also during these jobs are also very welcome.

Hi

Unless your clutch is worn, or if you have felt fading on it, I would use it again!

I should think, that the standard maserati Biturbo 2,0L-2,8L cluch would take about 480-500NM before fading,

when you have the gearbox out, then check for oil-leaks on gearbox and behind the flywheel O-ring gaskets.

by fitting the gearbox again, then try the cluch lock, and how it works before fitting the gearbox, there is a spring on it, and a verysmall amount of oil on it, will make the fitting og the box x10 easyer, I did it yesterday on Quattroporte 2,8L 1995 Getrag 6

If you think that there is a fault on your 2. gear, you should let a specialist look closer into the problem or fit another gearbox, I have an Getrag 6 that work very fine, in stock, for sale to collect in Denmark!

enjoy the work

Well, its the Getrag 6speed gearbox from my Quattroporte 2,8L 1995, I drove it myself for 5000 kilometers, its in good condition totally 150,000km!

10,000 km used QPcluch/flywheel for manual is also avalible.

I think that it should be possible to fit it in all the Manual Maserati Biturbos + Ghibli + Shamal + some Ferraris
if rebuilding from Aut to Getrag 6 in Maserati Biturbo, you must have the manual flywheel too

I have it in stock with all the other QP parts here in DK

If interested in Getrag 6 or Maserati QP Differential mailto Basserne@stofanet.dk

My first plan was to fit getrag 6 in the Maser Indy, instead of the original ZF5speed, but it seems not likely to be possible, the 1970 ZF box fitting is too different from Getrag6 - too bad

Hi,

The clutch disk is pretty much worn but the pressure plate seems fine. I’m thinking of letting new plates installed on my old clutch disk. It’s probably cheaper and I think it would be as good as a new one.

At the moment I’m not thinking of changing the gearbox for a Getrag one. Too much work involved. I’ll use ZF until it works.
