Have been looking at a number of different cars for around £15k - anything from a Jag XKR, Lotus Esprit V8, TVR Cerbera for a bit of a weekend blast.  Have always liked the QPIV V8s and prices seem to be the same as they were 5 years ago when I first looked at one.

Any advice on buying/running/avoiding one?!  Obviously a step back from a 4200 but until the business is established I don't want to have all of my money sat in the garage.

Failing that it's back to Mercedes with a SL60 AMG...

Cheers.

Assume the 3.2 has a cambelt and a chain?

The one I'm looking at is a one-owner 2000 car so hopefully cared for!

It's basically an early version of the 3200 engine with less power, so the same should apply as for that.
A year 2000, one owner evo sounds like a lovely and rare find.  Any links?

eBay # 290321491902.

Only thing I'm not sure about is the auto box - though by all accounts an auto suits the turbo'd engine?

Wotchar

The auto works fine in most respects, I do a lot of the shifting up and down myself though. As both my Evos were never meant for commuting or city driving I liked the Getrag 6 speed a heck of a lot more. That stonking engine and the noise it makes deserves to be manipulated by the driver, much harder to control with the auto. Powerslides are simple with the manual but due to the long ratios require more ability with the slush box. When engaged the auto urges the car on even when the brakes are applied, quite irritating and moving the shifter between P and R and D can be thoroughly unpleasant as the box slams and shudders up the linkage, you can't help but feel that you must be breaking it everytime you're negotiating a parking space. Another thing my car does is it sometimes won't change up when I move the selector from 2nd to 3rd, it will just sit in 2nd  for a good few seconds before it catches up and decides to do as it's told. This problem arose after I'd been driving it for a good while, the workshop tried to diagnose the problem but told me all was well and that I must be using it the wrong way, well done well done....

Wow, that car has been on and off ebay for about 12 months now! I don't know any more about it, but it's sure been for sale a l-o-n-g time so I would haggle for an even better deal as I'm sure he must want to shift it soon.

It does look nice tho.

Looks nice as long as the service history and rust is up to scratch!
Wouldn't worry about the auto, I think it suits the car better than a manual, it's also a strong box with few problems.

I remember sitting in this car at Earls Court, it really is a terrific colour combination and it was the car that sealed it for me, after that day I simply had to have one. I also remember the girl from Maranello, Annie Hoy I think her name was, she had decent curves as well....

It's still for sale though I can't get the idea out of my head that a manual (albeit rarer) would be the one for me.  Saw an auto awaiting preparation at Meridien and fallen in love again .

Prices are one thing, there's also the question of availability. Shocks on my car needed to be re-conditioned as Maserati no longer supply them, roughly £350 + VAT. I was told that fitting is a real pain, so it would be prudent to have a quote for total parts and labour before going ahead.

Assume you had the active units?

Have you sold the car?

Yes, and I believe this was standard on the Evoluzione (97 onwards)

I've part-exchanged my car for a Coupe, as Maserati no longer offer the immobilization kit the Red Key problem was never resolved, so I did a deal with Meridien Modena that I consider to be fair.

Was yours an auto - blue with tan leather?  I saw one out the back of Meridien last week - worn driver's seat - wheels need a refurb?

That would be it, although the wheels have been refurbed already and there are no scuff marks, shouldn't be anyway. You must be thinking about the centre caps, they're in pretty bad shape and I've searched the four corners of the earth to source them, without any luck.

Only had a quick look round as it was raining - it's going up for £15/16k AFAIK.

The caps are unobtainable I think as you say - I'm looking at Steven Sylvian's car who had some made specially.

I wouldn't worry about the suspension costs. You'd just get David Askew to refurb the units.
