Hi All

David asked for some pics with Perth as backdrop.  Strangely (probably because I live here and it is all too familiar for me) I don't have any.

But I do have some from a recent trip with my daughter to Walpole area on the south coast, about 400+ km south of Perth.

There are a couple of different ways to get there, the best is via a little timber town called Manjimup (they are all called something -up here, makes the east coasters giggle for some reason ) about 80km of fabulous twisties which plunge up and down through the Karri forest, the Mazzi happily took the bends at nearly twice the posted speed and if you're lucky no roos to hit and no cops to spoil the fun! My fun was not spoilt - faces set into permanent grins after 80 kms of it !

Dirty pix are due to 5 kms of dirt roads to get to Mt Frankland - not something I would do again in a hurry - not good for the paintwork! Also couple of travel pix showing Elephant Rocks on the way from Walpole to Albany and also after the climb up Mount Frankland (notice I made my daughter stand on the rickety walkway - I bottled out - she doesn't look too happy about it, but) and just to show Australia is not as flat and featureless as people imagine (also note occasional cloudy sky!)

Hopefully you are all shaking off your winter snows in the northern hemi - another 39 deg C day here

Cheers

Great shots as always Rob.

Stunning backdrops, and great to see a Maserati being tested in all kinds of terrain

WOW! I've just seen the pictures and they are fantastic. I love the colour of the sea and the view for miles. You are so lucky to have made that trip. Hope the car cleaned up OK!!

Mazzi cleaned up fine but the side 'surfboards' got a little bit peppered by the wash of stones.  Dirt roads are a fact of life outside the cities and are often the only access to many of the places you may want to visit. I have an old Landrover 110 which has been my 'bush' transport for the last 20 years (approaching 500,000km now) but is in need of a major rebuild before I would trust it for another long distance trip. Fantastic off road vehicle but very expensive to run, (legendary) appalling build quality and despite the Range Rover style coil suspension and many, many modifications (including supercharging ) it is still very primitive and uncomfortable.  Less interested in major expeditions into the bush these days - all that tent & camping stuff, discomfort, dirt, heat and flies not to mention all the fuel, water, provisions, tyres, spares and survival gear. Still we did get to some magic places over the years... and I never did get around to doing the Canning Stock Route (1800km of remote desert with giant sand dunes!). Hmmm...

Cheers

December is just a forerunner of what's to come - Feb is traditionally the hottest month! Hasn't rained for a long time now - I think not for the last 3 months so someone was saying a few days a go. Garden is looking a bit sad  but I can still find a few litres to wash the dead flies off the  Mazzi thanks to Messrs Karcher (power washer)

cheers
