Being a previous owner of a 156, and to tell you the truth - i was really disappointed by the carkey when i acquired my 3200GT
the alfa had one attractive key, how can the maser design team along with guigiaro come up with such a lame "german" design key...

Seems like its the wrong time of the month      sorry Amir,    all the little moaney niggles coming out the wood work recently what with air  vents and all , all warranted of course  but not many seem to moan about  what i consider to be the worst and most annoying  one of all .......   getting bloody wet every morning, nearly every time i open the window    after nearly 3 years i still forget about the roof water that just pours in the drivers window right down my arm when you turn left       but i soon remember the cloth  kept in the drivers  door to wipe it off the leather

Anybody fancy addressing this problem

regards loz

I keep the key in my pocket or in the ignition, so I don't really care if it is aesthetically pleasing.

Amir I had an Alfa 3.2 GT V6 and the key was literally a work of art. When I first joined the forum I also moaned about the Maserati key which looks like it was borrowed from my son's Fiat Punto. It is surprising how quickly you will get over it though once you discover what an exciting car you have bought yourself.

I don't know how old you are but if you are out in a club on a Saturday night and meet a girl for heavens sake don't wave the Maser key in front of her on the dance floor and say "Hey baby wanna go for a ride in my Maserati"???? - She will take one look at your key and say "Who are you kidding?"

Jeez, who gives a stuff about the key design as long as they work.

They will be moaning about the ashtrays next and no, the 3200 fitment is NOT big enough for even half the ash of my Havana. Before someone suggests I shouldn't smoke, b*****ks to them since I will do as I please :-)

Maybe it is the principle that matters? Laziness about key design could be the start of a slippery slope - next thing you know the dash will have a digital clock.

The key is boring, but it's not that cr*p really, just a bit unassuming looking compared to some others.  I liked the Mercedes E-class key (it didn't even look like a key as there is no visible metal bit - more like a small model of a spaceship).  My Jag had a nice key a bit like theVW/Audi ones which folds in to the fob part.

But none of these cars compares to the Maser, so I don't dwell on it too much!  If I owned one of these other cars (including Alfa!) I would moan about the lack of hair-raising engine note, amazing performance and down-right exclusivity, regardless of how great their keys are!!

I've got to admit, i thought the same about the key when i first bought the car, My Audi which i sold after buying the 3200 was quite nice as far as keys go. Infact i miss flicking the key open and closed, (simple things!)

Also, Loz, i've been caught out by the water on the roof pouring in, i blame it on too much wax on the car causing all the water to bead up on the roof!

Hmmm...I only use the key to start the car...most of the girls I know [Spohie excluded] have no idea what a maserati is so even if the key was plated in gold with the brand in encrusted dimonds would still be un-impressed.

If is not in the ignition then its in the pocket/safe so I don't care what it looks like as long as it starts the car and doen not make a hole in the lining of my trosers

I quite like the key for my Coupe Cambiocorsa, I also love cigars, Cohiba is almost better than sex, Bill Clinton came up with a novel way to enjoy both sensations at the same time of course....

ok for the big gun smokers, i suggest you go try out Toscanello s
as for the key boring design, i wouldnt blame people for calling me lame or it being something minor - however if you were an alfa owner before you would understand what i am after...i mean the alfa key is a freaking head turner...i thought the italian centro stile would go about more effort ...
urban maser - how would you compare the drive to a gt 3.2 v6 because i used to love my alfa - the v6 engine note is HAIR Raising

Amir The Alfa GT 3.2 V6 as I have said in other posts on Maserati Forum is an amazing car and is probably one of the best cars I have ever owned and I have owned quite a few.

It certainly has the best sounding V6 available and an exhaust note to die for. Add to that those gorgeous looks and it is a very desireable car.

I never usually get sentimentally attached to a car but I do confess I miss driving the Alfa as an everyday car. It was reliable, felt a lot faster than it actually was and was extremely easy to drive in town.

I traded the Alfa for a 2007 Maserati Gransport LE about 2 months ago. The Maserati if you forget the Fiat Punto key does not disappoint. It is certainly more luxurious than the Alfa, and 4.8 seconds to 100 km per hour against 6.3 in the Alfa makes it considerably faster (although you will never be able to use the difference unless you go on a track )

The Maserati gets more looks than a nun with her knickers down but then so did the Alfa.

Cruising on the motorway at 70 mph the Alfa and the Maserati feel very similar. Put your foot down and the difference in power becomes apparent.

My main critisism of the Maserati is that I have no confidence in the dealer network or for that matter some of the indies. I have become nervous about impending bills for maintaining it which if done through a main dealer are hair raising. Driving it in town with the paddle shift is not as a relaxed affair as with a conventional gearbox and parking it is a nightmare (always worried about kerbing those wheels which is so easily done)

On the plus side I always have a smile on my face when I see it. It does not get much better than saying I DRIVE A MASERATI

When I saw Marlon's handle I knew it would be a classic post in his trademark rhetorical style - I was not disappointed, ROTFL

Should I ask for a "Bill Clinton" when I next visit my tobacconist - On second thoughts perhaps not as I might get arrested.

Take care

Exactly  Amir  you obviously still got hair ,  if the Alfa makes your hair stand on end (its not doing its job properly) the masser  will most certainly make it fall out , least thats what i found

Take it your a key dangler   if the keys that important a focus   perhaps stay with Alfa or  an Audi is more your style

I dont know about the rest of you, but I buy Italian cars for the fact that they do 'Style first, function second'.

Most companies that would design the exterior of an Alfa or a Maserati would simply bung in a mundane interior and class is as job done.

...but not the Italians, they take pride in design in every form, so why scrimp on the key.....it does not add up?

Nigelo, surely you can see where I am coming from? The late nineties early 2000's alfa keys were a masterpiece.....what's changed?
