I came across this on the Haynes Motor Museam site; How about a group booking for spring 2009. A good chance to meet up for the new season and, as it has plently of facilities, a decent venue for the family etc.

I am aware that some owners would love to try out a track day but worry about other drivers comming off and hitting your pride and joy.

Cost £300 for 6 cars for the 1/2 day or £400 for the full day. Additional cars 40/50.

Test motor circuit hire

Hire the museum's own test track
The Museum’s own test track can be hired for individual testing or used with other outdoor areas for larger events. Challenging and technical, the Museum test circuit gives the chance for motoring activities of many different types. High-grade tarmac has been laid to give the best surface quality.

The circuit is ideal for driving enthusiasts and motorsport competitors alike, offering a fantastic driving experience whether hired for exclusive one car use, or as part of a group event. Solo use of our circuit removes all the familiar racing circuit problems of missing allocated sessions from congested circuit conditions, or other vehicles spoiling your test lap.

Exclusive hire of our facilities represents outstanding value in this age of ever increasing circuit charges. The circuit is ideal for any hill-climb and sprint cars, rally cars in tarmac trim, and short oval race cars. It has proved invaluable for racing teams to run in engines, bed in brakes, practice starts, set up handling for tight corners, or just getting used to your car in an affordable environment.

This exclusive facility also provides ideal conditions for film production and photography.

Track Hire Charges

Prices start from £70 for a half day session (10am - 1pm or 2pm - 5pm) or from £85 for a full day (10am - 1pm - mandatory lunch break - 2pm - 5pm). Noise restrictions apply, decibel levels will be tested by a member of museum staff, contact us for further information.

Short Notice Bookings - Bookings cannot be made until 7 days in advance of the date required.

Please note that the Test Circuit is NOT available to hire at weekends.

First Vehicle
Half Day £70.00
Full Day £85.00

Per Additional Vehicle
Half Day £40.00
Full Day £50.00

Assured Bookings - Date may be booked in advance.
Half Day - £300.00 up to 6 vehicles, £40.00 per additional vehicle
Full Day £400.00 up to 7 vehicles, £50.00 per additional vehicle

All prices exclude VAT

Dates
April - September
Monday - Friday

9.30am - 5.30pm
Open until 6.00pm during summer holidays

October - March
Monday - Sunday
10.00am - 4.30pm

As I recall........... at what turned out to be the Forum's inaugural social event, Roger and David invited us to join them at the Bristol Italian day and overnight at a very nice pub with good accomodation before visiting the Haines museum, the photo of 5 Maser that has become the Forum "logo" was taken in the Haines car park!......The track is very small indeed, as the map says 1km and tight for big cars.

However it would make a good venue for a social meet and as you say it could be an opportunity for those who haven't tracked before. Certainly inexpensive and we can mosy around the museum too.

I would certainly be up for a meet at Haines, any excuse for a social!

Hmm .......says track not available weekends but open Monday to Sunday October to March?

Other tracks like Goodwood offer club days and the open pit lane days have limited numbers of cars on the track with safe overtaking, instructors normally available and a lot more civilised than the Castle Combe free for all (I am not knocking Castle Combe but there is an anxiety level about the hot hatches (especially the dented ones) up the tail pipes on wet corners!). Maybe there is interest in this too? If we want to do some bigger track stuff. Dearer but a lot less risky

As Malc says, the track is tiny and I'd too small for anything bigger than an elise.  Idea in general is a good one.

You could try Bruntingthorpe it's pretty cheap and they point you in the direction of some hardstanding at the begining of the main straight and leave you to it, as long as you dont go over the noise levels they leave you completely alone. The main straight is long enough to reach over 170 ( if you exit the bottom corner quick enough ) and there is a canteen on site if you want to use it. Not exactly race circuit facilities but great fun.

Looks an ideal location , just google earted the circuit and briefly clocked their website, definate  possible location, great for paired  standing start 1/4 mile and top speed trial  im well up for that,         thinks i better get a new clutch straight after     might be a bit far north for the southern contingent so in that case i'll do Goodwood aswell

regards loz

What happens when you meet one of those big things with the wings sticking out?

I might need a new clutche BEFORE

Bit far North? ain't that why they call them Grand Tourers? Keep seeing Steve in the South down from Sheffield a return trip may be in order!

Any other tracks to put in the "pot"?

Just to remove any confusion, I did not manage 170 on the straight at Bruntingthorpe myself but was a passenger in my 3200 with a guy called Rikki Cann who races Aston Martins, I asked him to take me round a couple of laps to get used to things and it's an experience I will never forget. Having an experienced racing driver take me round in my own car made me realise just how avarage my driving ability is and what the limits of the car really are.

I'm up for it. being from Manchester area, Leicestershire suits me fine. Also, there  can't be too many places to legally max these cars can there? Could be a blast.

HI All,

I had one of those corporate days at Bruntingthorpe about 2 months ago and although a bit of a trek the track was brilliant as I remember 2 miles. I span off at 80..ish in a Atom into a field then continued. I had a fantastic day and the staff were great and one of the tutors was a nutter in the Ferrari who when you think I rally need to brake now was shouting "make it scream" yes a complete loon.

But I would highly recommend it!

Sounds like fun to me!

Will be nice to see what kind of normal, well-balanced people like me run around in these cars!!
