Take a quick peek at the great  Fangio test driving the 250f , extremely good film considering its from the fifties, frightening the speeds they got up to on those skinny wheels drifting round bends and chicanes

Does make you wonder, that if the FIA safety rules were abondoned and dissolved tomorrow  how many of the F1 drivers of today would be prepared to compete on the same basis as the fifties and sixties drivers     Not many i think     was a golden age of pioneering coupled with grit and bravery
