Hi im currently looking at a 2002 maserati 4200 gt, its on a 52 plate with 77k, the car has little history but has been serviced by the owners.
what am i likely to pay for the car? and also what problems should i look out for on these, had porsches in past so reliability has never really been an issue.
Thanks Bobby.

Catto,

Sold my 4200 in May. It was a 2003 with 70k on the clock. However it was serviced by Maserati and then Emblem in Poole every year and on the miles, with full invoice history. Pait was perfect given a few stone chips, with new tyres and fully refurbished alloys.

Sold for 12.5k...I would not go over 10k for the one listed.

BUT GET IT CHECKED BY A PRO with an SD2-3 to ensure the clutch is ok.

Points to look for;
Wishbones [£400]
Steering rack play [£700]
clutch [£1500]
Rust on the rear arches/lights
All electrics work
Bell House Squeel [Clutch out job]

As above, if you like the look it and think you're heading towards a deal, make sure you get an inspection.  From a specialist.  Will costs a couple of hundred quid but well worth it.

Cant stress enough the importance of a independent inspection prior to purchase, especially for one thats been serviced at home.

Bare inmind, most buyers of these cars will be looking for a comprehensive histrory so your buying price should reflect the fact that it has been serviced at home.

I'd take a great deal of care to establish exactly what has been serviced and when [original parts receipts should be available at minimum].
These cars are complex and arguably well beyond the knowledge [and diagnostic equipment] of the average DIY service enthusiast.
I'd also strongly recommend an independent specialist inspection due to the high-ish mileage and lack of dealer history - it could save you a fortune.

That said, don't be put off, these are great cars and should be reliable given the right TLC...

Good luck - let us know how you get on

had a long think and decided to go ahead and went and bought the car yesterday, car drove fine and had receipts etc for parts, drove the car home about 80 miles and was very pleased with the drive.
wasnt fussed about an inspection or lack of service history as picked the car up at a very good price i would say, its in red with the cream leather so nice colours.
hopefully wont have too much problems with the car.
thanks for advice.

You are a brave man buying without an inspection, but if the price was right, they are pretty reliable compared to previous models. Have fun! Cheers Mike

Yeah well picked the car up very cheap I would say, so wasn't bothered about taking the chance, the car was already cheap at under £10000 and knocked another bit off the price, the car came from a genuine retired guy with a collection of cars who couldn't be bothered with advertising etc , I looked at the car in 2009 when he bought it so knew the history of the car.

Yeah I would say it was cheap, was looking through the boot today and removed the compressor and found a folder with manuals , including a fully stamped up service book until 2009. Which was when the last owner bought the car and he has only done 7000 miles since then and serviced himself. He has a collection of cars so does his own servicing, Was a bonus discovering the fully stamped service book today

With that information, you could actually sell on and make a few thousand, infact more than a few thousand, if you so wished. Post up some pictures! Cheers Mike

Spare wheel is a very rare option!

You will need an SD2-3 to turn off the air-bag light

Sounds like its got some nice options.  Sparewheels are something like £500.  Auditorium 200 is an option too, IIRC.

Looks like a nice one in the pics.  If so, thats good value for £8k.  Is the plate yours or the previous owners?
