Hi Guys

Im from Australia and have just imported a 3200 manual from the uk.
The car sofar has no real problems except for a shocker, well except for 1...
Im getting about 300kms from a tank before my fuel light comes on witch means i have about 15L left
Im doing abit of highway and city driving, is this normal or is there something to check before i blame it on my poor driving style
thanks,
Jason.

you should be getting about 6 to 8 kms / litre. its a twin turbo. I guess its the 3200cc engine.

My fuel consumption is between 11 and 16 liters/100, depending on the way you drive.
I guess with a standard drive in city, you should be arround 13.5 to 15 L/100.

300 km with a tank really looks excessive.

Hope this helps,

Bernard 16 l/100k is about 6.3 kms  per litre.SO its the same as I mentioned.

Stratia, Based on what you mentioned lets say you get 300ks till you have about 15-18 lt left. That means you maybe comsuming 60lit for 300 ks which is about 5ks/lit.

Just check the usual suspects. If the car is running smooth and there are no smells, v few things that could be wrong.

I would just look / smell in the boot if there is any vapour smell. Check the fuel tank. The fuel pumps have a metal ring that holds them. In original untouched pumps the seal has a blotch of paint at some place to show it is sealed. If its opened before your pump seals (the green ones may be gone) .

If there is any slight smell of fuel in the boot you may have some O ring leaking. In my car I saw a negligible amount of fuel leaking from the fuel filter Brass ring.

Check the underside of the car. All brake and fuel pipes are exposed under the floor. Did someone stick a JACK on it ???

PS

Most used  Maseratis and Ferraris from Hong Kong have ended up  in OZ or Thailand. Did you get it in yr self or bought it locally. Curious as an Aussie friend has the Maserati Ghibli (1997 model) 6 speed manual with just 27000 kms. Needs a bit of TLC but he wants to ship it to OZ and FORS seem to have changed some regulations.
He has owned it for 6 yrs and previously owned by an AUSSIE for 3 yrs. Heaps of potential in this car as its body is STRAIGHT and door panels still have the PVC protective covering as supplied by the fty. Needs a big service and full paintwork . He would appreciate any help.

Hi Stratia,
I have been looking at doing the same thing for quite a few months.
Each time I think I have a deal stitched up, something works against me.
I am in Melbourne; where are you located?
If you are also in Melbourne I would like to pick your brains as to the final costs you incurred (if that is OK).
Please PM me if that is acceptable.
PS. I have a 159 3.2 Q4 at the moment, and would say the economy everyone has quoted is not much different to what the Alfa returns (maybe even better!).
Regards,
Scarlan

My friend has 2 alfas in Brisbane. She is HK based and cars have not been used for 6 yrs. I was the one who last drove them for a drive on the coast to Noosa. One is an alfa spider 1994 model with about 27000 genuine ks with full service history. ANd the second is the alfa 164super 24v again with about 24000kms. both were sent from hk to oz thinking she was retiring but never happened. The 164 is metallic blue with black leather and full options in auto, spider is red with tan and manual. both pvt import complied. spider had some starting problems but some smart italian whiz mechanic shud be able to fix them. It would be nice to see them being used by some real italian car fan. no prangs and both . Since there should be a few Aussies on the forum let me know if anyone is keen. I suppose they just need the roadworthy again . They have the yellow compliance plates.

Virendra,
I suggest you place a note on ausalfa.com
There are a lot of Alfa Romeo enthusiasts on this site.
If nobody is interested in purchasing the cars then they will at least give you a good idea of what they are worth so they can be listed on carsales.com.au

Jason Glad you found the problem. I was going to suggest you mix a few cans of Fosters with every tank of fuel. She is an  Aussie Now.

Did contact Jim today and yes all of above is valid. Note they are in the process of obtaining certification for the 4200 series vehicles so if anyone one is interested, they should be ready in about 2/3 months. Price $16k for compliance only
