Hello all I am new to this (and any) forum, and want to share my dilemma. I have a longing for a ghibli - have done for I don't know how long. My wife thinks it's a boxy eighties throwback and prefers "curvy cars". She is also scared of the maintenance costs. However, I think I have ground her down and I am now serious. But there aren't any.....my question(s)

The GT commands more money - Purchase price doesn't worry me so much, it is those ongoing costs. Buying guides focus on service schedules etc and they seem similar from 1a to GT - so is there a running costs hike for the older series - or is it same across the board and just mileage related? Just thinking of dodgy radiators, low lying sumps (there are lots of speed bumps in and around where I live).

There is an N plate 95 car come on with 100k plus miles "used everyday" - new engine 50k miles ago......waiting for more detail. History is with alfa's and tvr's - Beamer at the moment - I need some soul back in my life!

Hi mate and welcome

I have a GT and must say it's real fun to drive and own. Servicing should not be that bad if you used a good indie. The major cost is cam chains around every 52,000 miles thats an engine out job around £1,900-2,500 depending on who you use.

Just make sure you have an independent expert look at the car first to avoid any nightmares.

i have a 95, they a pretty good, id make sure it has the coil ignition and not the distributor with leads, is it an abs or non abs model. on mine the fusebox was stuffed causeing a few little annoying electrical problems but an easy fix with a new or reconditioned one., also i have done a diff in mine but it is the ranger diff, and is shared with earlier bi turbo models except for the diff cooler, not very expensive, timing belts is one to check for, also you are coorect with the low sump, it is a bit daunting at times, stick your head underneath and check to see if the cooling fins on the bottom are chipped awway or smashed off and you will soon get an idea of the cars history, also i put gt wheels on a 95 and it has helped the ground clearance a little bit from the extra inch on the wheel size.
