Hi after years as a ducati nut I have a new family and so have decided to hang up my leathers for a safer pass time! I've been looking at the yello Ghibli GT for sale at James Paul in Horsham surrey it has a comprehensive history but do any of you know the previous two owners or anything about the car? Also opinion on it would be great.I live in Scotland and will go to see the car next friday but if it's a LEMON!!! excuse the punn I would rather not travell all that way.

Thanks in advance Peter

Hi there,

The people who actually serviced Ghiblis when they were new were quite few and far between. Get the reg and run it by Marios at Autoshield and Andy at Bill McGrath. Then get a breakdown of all the garages that serviced it and let us know, as well as spreaking to the garages in question.

That car has been in several magazines and does look very clean, but at £13k that is prob at the top end of what a GT is worth. For £17 or so you could get a Ghibli Cup - if that is for you.

Hi and thanks for the reply's.

Tbody
I have spoken to Andy at Bill McGrath he has only supplied a couple of minor service items for the car. It has a full main agent service history so I will do my home work over the next couple of days.

Del

I am aware of the price but I feel that the condition may be justified.  I will know in a couple of days I'm going to see it Monday. A cup is not realy what I am after, even if I could find one. The engines seem to be less robust & most have had rather more "enthusiastic" owners & therefore harder life.

I will way up everything when I have seen it & McGraths have given it the once over.
The colour is one area that is not my first choice so I will see.

I'll keep you all posted.

Look back on previous posts recently, the Ghibli is not holding it's money well at all and go for relative peanuts.  If that car is worth 13k, it needs to be totally mint, with no rust anywhere even more so when you consider the colour and that it has also has pimped wheels and has been dechromed.
These cars are great, but do have a limited target market.  Unless the seller is very lucky or it really is totally faultless - it will stick around for a very long time at that price.
There is a silver one on pistonheads with similar miles, but older for 5995.

Hi Chad

Thanks for your input.

As far as we can tell the car came from the factory as it is! I will be able to get to the bottom of things on Monday.
The price will is what they are looking for, what it sells for could be another story.

We will see.

Well after writing a full update somehow I've deleated it!!!!!!! so here we go again.

Went down to look a the car twice over the weekend.

Service history & owner ship is spot on. Supplied by Neames in essex then services by them & Glenvargil Edinburgh when he was in Scotland.

Full main dealer with many intermediate services as well. Cam belts, Brakes ie new disc's pads lines & calpers overhauled, clutch & power steering pump all replaced during the last service by Joe Macari Nov 2007 less that 800 miles ago!

The car drives like new, no rattles shakes from anywhere. minor rust on the leading edge of the bonnet under the grille.

The car has had some paintwork that is all documented. I spoke to the owner who told me that it was shunted in a traffic jam. The the rear bumper/quaters, bonnet, front wings repaired in 2001. Spoke to the body shop they confirmed the work and said that pannel damage was very minor small creases at light clusters dings to leading egde of front wings bonnet & they replaced both bumpers & one headlight.
fine overspray under the bonnet & a couple of other places tallies up.

All in all I would say it is an honest car with some minor battle scars that need seeing to.

The dealer has agreed to a full pre purchase inspection at Bill McGrath this should be done within a couple of weeks.

With regard to the price I made it clear that I know the market & that it was priced on the very high, if not to high side of things. He agreed & said that if McGraths put a value on it he will do his best to come to that. & any work that needs to be done we can talk money on also. I feel there may not be much to put right but we will see.

Dealers are just that & need to make a living. He has sold a few of these and pointed out some defects he thought I may miss. I had noted them but it was nice to hear that.

I will keep you posted as things move forward but it looks positive at the moment.

Hello again

Well the deal is done deposit paid, subject to a full inspection at Bill mcGraths.

I can't believe it! been after on of these since 1994 motor show. Now it should be in my garage by the middle of next month.

The Dealer Paul Noon at James Paul BMW was in the end a real gent. I called him yesterday and explained that having spoken to several experts Marios (Autoshield)  & Andy (BM) that the market has changed for these cars and the values have dipped.

We agreed on a final price of £10250.00 still on the high side but he has already sold the car once for £13995.00 lin feb 08 & px'd it against an M5 in March this year. I got my car he has made space for quicker turn over stock. Everyone is happy.

Great stuff. Best of luck that it all goes through and the car is a goodun. Although with bm inspecting and at that price I'm sure it will be a peach!

Well its been emotional!! to say the least.

The car is not without a few faults (List seems to go on forever) so My initial feelings where not good, having now spoken at length to Andy (BM) things are much much better. In a nutshell, They car is in very good original condition, in need of some bodywork to the bonnet but apart from that very much rust free. The plumbing & wiring etc has been attended to by coco the clown,  she needs a 24,000 mile service & the list of minor faults is larger than I thought. Stil for a car with this provenance, miles & lack of rust Andy agreed that I was well worth the cost to sort.

So it's mine, & BM have another project to look after.

Kid in sweet shop!!!!

Is one of the problems that BM are looking to bring the car upto concours standard ? They all rust on the underneath of the bonnet lip, and yes it will only get worse over time, but do you need to address all the minor faults to make it a nice useable model ??

Most of the minor faults were probably there when it left the factory, you are b*ggered if your's was built on a Friday !!

Hi Del

I think your on the money with that.

I'm going to do a lot of the minor things myself, but a belt service is out of my league!
It is already a nice car to drive. It has a brand new mot done last week so it's not at all bad.

Hi Lozcb

I live in Scotland but the car was for sale in Horsham. I'll be driving back via the A68! on Sunday.

I hope it's sunny and dry.
