Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum and considering a GranSport as a replacement for my old 911 cabriolet.

I've read many of the posts advising of PPI and listing a few of the dealers, but there are a couple of items
I'd like some advice and your experiences on:
- although it won't be used as a daily driver it will be used regulary, approx 8K per annum, mostly motorway and few A roads. Any issues with this use, and what's it like in the wet?
- what are the details of the service schedules? As I understand it a low mileage car then servicing should be both on time and mileage, but what is covered in each?
- is it practical to use the rear seats for children? I have  a 4 and 7 year old, who will require the odd pick-up from school. At present I can only carry one of them in the 911 (without going through the process of fitting bespoke rear belts!)
- I live in Chester, can anybody recommend a good indie and are they able to do an inspection?
- Nuvola seem to have a few cars in, but they are based in London. Although they appear to be recommended and mentioned a few times on the forum I would feel happier with an independent inspection - can anybody recommend a local indie who could visit them or am I being paranoid?
- last, but not least, are there any of the options which are must haves?

Sorry for all the diverse queries, but any help would be much appreciated.

Ian,

Welcome to the forum.

Here's my quick reply to get you on your way....

- 8k per annum:  I use mine as much as I can (generally I train to work, so its not technically a daily).  I've done c12k in mine in the year I've had it, with no real problems, including a trip to Modena.
- servicing, off the top of my head, is every 12.5k miles or annually.  The owners manual shows whats covered in each so if noneone else chimes in, I'll scan an upload when I get a chance.
- rear seats are plenty big enough for a 4 and 7 year old - I've got a gaggle of neices and nephews younger and older and they get in fine.  In fact, I've taken the in-laws out to dinner in it a few times with no complaints.  Adults fit fine, but might get a bit miffed over longer journeys, kids no issues at all.  Though the boot isnt that big....
- a forum member is based in Chester and deals/specialises in Maseratis - he has a gem of a GS for sale at the moment.  Well worth giving him a shout - www.richardgracecars.co.uk - tell him Woody of MF sent you :)
- indies - there are a couple near Nuvola, probably closest would be Joe Macari in Wandworth/Wimbledon.  I think Verdi are another option but not sure if they're still trading (read something about them being wound up recently).
- must have options: I went for the LE pack which has some nice options - heated seats, stereo upgrade, rear park sensors, xenons, full leather etc.  Must haves are down to preference, but it seems full leather is prefered.  The LE pack included full leather and came in in mid 2006 IIRC.

Have a read around the forum, then come back with some specifics......good luck with the hunt and once again, welcome to MF.

Cheers
Woody

Thanks Woody for the heads up. Will give the local contact / member a call. Although not many photos the GranSport, the advert reads as though it is near perfect and a superb spec, presumably due to it being an LE. Will let you all know how I get on.

Cheers, Ian

I'm in a similar position to the original poster.... I grew up with Italian cars, racing Alfas and Fiats, and have owned 8 Alfas. Via a couple of wonderful Lotus Elises, my car ownership journey ended up in a Cayman S. Brilliant car technically, but with no soul. Maybe it bores me after the rollercoaster of emotion you get with Alfas and Lotus.... So I want to swap my Cayman for a GS...... ......I'd be grateful for some advice on what to look for. I read a few scare stories about clutches needing changing rather too often and various electrical issues. But having come from several cars that have forums dedicated to online prejudices, I've got an open mind. I'd also appreciate advice on good independents in the Midlands. Thanks for reading
