Hi guys

I put my 4200 up for sale. If I sell it I'm looking at a Granturismo, but the common thinking is it's a bit underpowered for its class. I don't want to buy a pig in a poke and maybe the S is worth the extra money?

Has anyone been lucky enough to drive both the Granturismo and the S?

Opinions?

Yes I have...both are fantastic but the Granturismo S is so much more focused as a drivers car plus I prefered the gear box over the Auto in the standard car. If I had the money for me the standard car wouldn't even be on my list if I could have the S. Thats not to say the standard car is no good as it is but the driving experience is not that much different from the Gransport......actualy I though the Gransport was a better drivers car but for me I think it was the auto in the Granturismo....if you want a GT that takes you across large distance in comfort without effort then the standard car...if you want a GT that takes you across large distance in comfort without effort but then excites on your fav road when you get there then the S....Either way I would be happy with either of them.

Only driven the GT, and must say i enjoyed the drive , One guy i met in Sandbanks Poole, bought the new Tourismo when it first came out, but felt his GS was the better drivers car  and on performance aswell  that he kept both rather than trade it in ,          nice if you can afford it    but personally the S is the way to go .

I used to have a Gransport and changed it for a QP then a Granturismo. Forget the talk about lack of performance, in the real world on anything other than a bone dry surface at a set of lights my GT will leave my mates GS for dead. I loved my old GS but the GT feels like its from a totally different time warp. I'm certainly not knocking the GS, at times I really miss its raw sportyness (if sportyness isn't a word it should be) but the GT is a great all-rounder and I have increased the "sportyness" by fitting a TUBI.
I have driven the GTS and have to say I wish I had waited for it before buying the GT, its better again but I don't fancy taking the massive hit in depreciation just yet, and after 14 months of owning the GT it still feels as good as new and has only been back to the dealer once for a service and to repair a bit of trim. Now in terms of reliability the GS was another matter but that's going off the subject so I will park that one for another day.

I agree, the GT will be more comfortable, but the GTs sounds the dog's wotsits!, I'm planning on a GTs for that reason alone, although I'd love the convenience of an auto...

Agree with lozcb on this one.  GT-S is by far the best of the two, worth the extra.  The GS is a better driver than the standard GT.

Any thoughts on the differences? I've heard the S growl but that surely is not all :)

I thought I saw F1 paddles on the standard GT too?

More power, lower I believe and a different set up to the suspention. It's the car the GT should have been on launch to be honest.

Yes the GT can be had with paddles but it is a pure Auto where as the GTS is a not.

Tried the GT very good, bought the GTS in September, and wow! What a car. It's a great cruiser in auto, pop it into sport and it transforms into a wickedly wild car to match it's superb looks. The only way to go! What a noise!

I've got a GT and have driven the S on extended test drive and on a Maserati track session at Bruntingthorpe. The S is impressive and the noise is addictive but the standard car is an excellent tourer. I looked at trading my car in but at 10 months old with under 2k miles on the clock (I have a few other cars before people wonder why it's done so few miles) I wasn't prepared to take the hit of over £30k for the modest gains. The S is likely to shed a fair bit of money as well and news of the forthcoming GT-S variant (4.7 engine with ZF auto box) will only make this worse. I'm most likely going to get a DMS remap which takes power up to the level of the S for around £1k. I also considered adding S side skirts to my car but decided against it. I was surprised how cheap they are from a main dealer. It's also possible to fit the exhaust from the S to gain the sound but the butterfly valves won't work on the GT and are therefore always open I'm told. So anyone thinking of buyng a used S may want to consider a used GT at considerably less money and do a bit of mod'ing using mostly genuine Maserati items.
