Great Western Italian Day12th September 2010
The Italian AutoMoto Club announces: GWID will return to a one-day format this year in Swindon on Sunday September 12th between 10am and 5pm. Display vehicles (all Italian cars, bikes and scooters are welcome), should arrive from 9am – 11 am. Placement will be on a 'first-come' basis.
The event will be located between the National Trust Central Office, the Designer Outlet Shopping Centre and the STEAM Museum, thus offering something for various interests in addition to the Italian machinery on display.

The Designer Outlet Shopping Centre has over 100 stores of all types plus various refreshment facilities, completely under cover within part of the Grade II-listed former Great Western Railway works.

STEAM is a fascinating museum devoted to the Great Western Railway. Not only is 2010 the 175th anniversary of the formation of the GWR but on our event day they are holding their Railway Festival, which will include a rare opportunity to see the British car which broke the Steam World Land Speed Record last year (139.8mph!), trade stalls, 14 model railway layouts, a traction engine and a real ale bar.

The National Trust Central Office will also be open throughout the day for attendees to visit their shop and café for breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
StaNav users should enter 'Kemble Drive, Swindon' as their destination.
Spectator parking is available opposite the event site at a small charge and also at other locations around the Outlet Centre.
Further information will appear on our website www.italianautomotoclub.co.uk Please contact 0117 947 5814 or IAMC@ourhemanpal.co.uk for additional information.
Best regards,

Thanks for your help Spike:
Great Western Italian Day – Swindon on September 12th 2010
The Italian Auto Moto Club's annual autumn event returned to the home of the 'Great Western' name this year. In the warm, late summer sunshine; some entrants spend the day chatting with others about their passion for their cherished vehicles, others visited the shops in the Outlet Centre, relaxed on the sun-bathed veranda of the National Trust building or took in the STEAM museum, where the celebrations of the 175th anniversary of the Great Western Railway were in full swing.

The displays included a fine selection of two and four-wheeled transports from all the mainstream Italian marques. Notable Fiats included Mike Rysiecki's immaculate 124 Spider, Mike Nettley's well preserved 1988 Series 1 Uno Selecta, several 500s including a couple of new 500 Abarths resplendent in Passadoble Red and Scorpion Black. Notable Alfas included Les Dufty's superb SZ (ES30), Brera, 159, GT, Giulias, 146, Matta, Spiders from across the ages and David Roots' Giulia 'Special.' Maserati were well represented by 3200 and 4200 coupes and David & Wendy Newby's Bora. The Ferrari 348 was eye catching but Lancias took the 'Favourite Car' and 'Best of the Rest' awards. Adrian Rudler's Aurelia Pinin Farina Cabriolet found most favour by the votes of the entrants themselves and Charles Shelton's Flaminia Superlegera Convertible was a creditable runner up. Other notables were Marcus Harrison's stunning Gamma Gran Tourismo, a Beta Volumex, Deltas, Integrales and Evos.

The two wheeled fraternity were well represented with many Ducatis, Moto Guzzis and Vespas; plus one example each from Morini and Benelli, in attendance. . The 'Favourite Bike' was voted to be Nat Bennett's superb Ducati 888 Desmoquattro.

With much interest from the general public and a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, our aim of 'bringing enthusiasts together' was once again realised as members, associates and friends spent a very pleasant day.
