Evening,

I am not sure if all Ghiblis are they same but the Cups take oil vapour from the top of the cam covers and then feed it into the nearside air box. It enters the air box engine side of the filter, if it entered the otherside the filter should do its job and soak up some of the oil vapour. As it is the vapour tends to get drawn into all the pipe work, down to the turbos, through the intercooler and up into inlet pipes. It is not a huge amount but rubbing your finger inside the pipework you can feel it. There is nothing in the offside pipework, as this does not have the breather pipe work.

Is it possible to send the vapour somewhere else and "collect it" ?

Thanks

Del

well, that's a very interesting question.

I think if the cam covers vented into the airbox prefilter, then the paper mesh would have be ingesting "vapour" instead of just "gas" (air) and would go soggy quite quickly I would think- on one bank only.

The system is the same on all Ghibli's I think although the Cup's seem to have a different separator (a round cylinder rather than a rectangular box) and the pop-off valves are mounted further forward over the top of it.

I had the intercooler off on the passenger side a few years ago (to get access to the foglight & try and cure the steamed-ip foglight look) and there was a sweat of turbo sludge in this hose. It's the lowest point in the car in the induction system and it kind of collects...

How did you notice it...?

The oil vapor separator isn't particularly effective on the late Ghiblis so you do get the intake tract on that one side plated with oil. That's not great for the efficiency of the intercooler. On my car the drain back is along side the block under the turbo and towards the block. Not too far from the back side of the alternator. ON others there is a "Y" fitting on the oil filler tube.

any chance of a shot of that, Bob- next time you're down at the garage?

(if you can get me that picture of the mounting bracket for the cold air feed to the ABS head while you're about it; I'll send you a cash prize!)

It's all apart now. Try Eurospares parts manual.
