Wanted to say hello to all readers, This is my first post on the forum. Just want to say that i have been reading this forum for a couple of months and the knowledge you guys have about these cars is impressive. I have owned my 05 black Quattroporte with 52k on the clock for about 4 months and recently it has developed a kind of humming noise on the motorway, can hear it constantly from 60+ mph. I think it's coming from the engine but can't be sure. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks

Welcome,

Have you checked the under-tray to see if it has been knocked loose by a speed-bump?

Azher, is this a constant hum or does the pitch of the hum go up and down.

My initial thought would be a wheel bearing, but very hard to diagnose noise issues over the net!!

Guys, thanks for your mails. I've been so busy moving house I haven't had a chance to reply. In all I think the noise may have gone, either that or I have gotten useto it ! Having said that, I just spent over £800 on two rear continental tyres and a full geometry check. The car drives so much better now. I think the previous owner had been playing around with the setup, it was so out it took nearly two hours putting the car back to where it should be and yes a need a where bearing on the rear left too. And now I have a service due in November ... The costs !! Can anyone recommend a specialist in Manchester ... I think the gearbox needs work too. When it changes gear, it's pretty clunky. Any of you guys know what the chunkiness might be? Cheers ....
