Evening all, My baby, my 2.8 spyder has on Saturday, decided to throw a wobbly! It would start for toffee and hasn't let me down in years! It wanted to start then failed, I ran over everything making sure all correct, as ran like a sewing machine till then. I even drained tank of never use again Tesco fuel, and filled with ultimate BP, This seemed happier, but only ran erraticly then died, after hours of head scratching and Dissi checking spark checking etc Gave up, today I took out sparks and totally coked, cleaned n ran, but only of feathered throttle, then took spark out n recoked! So replacing air/coolant temp sensors Wednesday, brown n blue to us guys:) Anyone else have any ideas incase it's not a fault of sensors overfuelling?? Thanks in advance Marc

I came across what sounds like a very similar problem in a friends Fiat Coupe Turbo. We spent hours mucking about with it, changing sensors and throttle position switches, but in the end the fix was ultra simple.
Check the vacuum hose to your MAP sensor (will run from the back of the inlet manifold to a black box with one electrical connector), I found on the Fiat that it was partially blocked causing the issues you describe. I removed the tube, used some carb cleaner in it then blew it through with an air line - or you could just replace it.

See:

Item number 9 is the MAP sensor the pipe is the bit to check

Well I have taken pipe off as you said, but was perfectly clear. So, since new sensors here tommorow, I'll fit them and see if runs properly, Then if not, I'll look at trying another map sensor Since it does control fuel air mixture as well, I'm hoping That it's one of these two - blue /brown sensors so replacing Both, as will work wonders to running anyway So- until tommorow Any further help/ advice gladly taken And again thank you guys As I'm hoping to get it running for Saturday as maserati meet At ace cafe from 11am n all Mazzer owners welcome :)

Bummer, so when you disconnected the pipe from the sensor, you could blow down it with ease? Sorry for the last minute detail, but the oil vapour (if congealed) in the inlet manifold could still cause a restriction in the casting on the manifold.

Sensor snapping was a pain.
Can you borrow a MAP sensor to test?

It could be a fuel injector which is causing the over fuelling.

Missed post! And moron above you doesn't aid matters . I've tested all injectors, taken all plugs out, recleaned, then started up again. All that happens, is 2/2.5k revs then waivers around 1k then dies. Take out plugs and all equally coked. Take out fuel pump fuse and runs fine till runs out of fuel. So, got engine in bits, putting new gasket on plenum, and going to hopefully Friday, test running with new ecu and throttle sensor as process of elimination. If not solved.... Box of matches and petrol!!

Duncan/ zam, I can assure you both the moron bit was not towards yourselves. As both been v helpful. I am however, with cars engine in a lot of pieces and 3 weeks off the road and missing car meets and shows, In the mood for someone saying by them looking at it, will help. As no idea of whom they are nor where live, so it's not appreciated. Otherwise I'm fine. But I wouldn't wish to offend either any good members nor those of site. I'm just a little anxious regarding my cars I'll health. Regards Marc

Marc,

One possible cause of overfuelling can be incorrect camshaft timing. Maybe the belt has slipped by one tooth.
