Hi all, I hope you all had a nice Christmas & New Year. I had been out this afternoon in my QP as it was a sunny day and after being out driving for an hour a message popped up saying Engine Control System Failure Go To Dealer but as soon as this message popped up another one said Transmission Failure Go To Dealer Slowly then the car died, I managed to steer the Maserati to the side of the road, thank god it wasn't on a motorway. The car now doesn't start at all and when you turn the key off it doesn't go into a gear. Due to this happening I had to get a recovery truck to bring me back home at a cost of £60, I think I will be joining the AA now. As you can imagine I want the car up & running again A.S.A.P but it's now stuck at home with a cover on it as it doesn't start now. I know that in the past the Engine Control System Failure was due the battery going low but if anyone can help I would be very grateful. Regards Neil

A few suggestions,
Clutch
F1 relay
Low F1 fluid
None of these should give you an ECU fault though.

Please keep us informed.

Hi Klive, Thanks for the advice. I have spoken to the garage I got the car from and they think it might be just the battery being to low and chucking loads of error messages, I will try a new battery first before I hand it over to the garage to check over as they charge £60 per hour. I have looked on the web and found some interesting stories due to the Bosch's ECU, I know it wasn't to do with the traction but it might be linked details below. If you were one of the first Brits to take delivery of a Maserati Quattroporte Automatic, it might be wise to schedule a trip to the dealership sometime soon. That’s because the marque is about to recall the first 96 examples of the car sold in the UK in order to rectify a fault that could disable its electronic stability control system. The Italian brand’s problem is with the Bosch ECU that controls the ‘Maserati Stability Program (MSP)’. When the car’s battery is low, a bug in the software slows down signals sent by the car’s electronic sensors. The car’s onboard computer then assumes that there is a fault with the MSP system and disengages the car’s traction and stability control; its antilock brakes will continue to work. “If you use your Quattroporte every day, you’ll probably never encounter the fault,” a company spokesperson told Autocar, “and if you do, it’ll go away once you charge the battery and restart the car.” “We’ll be informing the affected owners individually in the next few weeks, and they’ll be asked to bring their cars back to their nearest service outlet, where a new ECU will be fitted free of charge. The fix should only take a few hours.” Maserati assured us that it had updated its factory stock of Bosch ECUs to fix the problem on new-built cars some months ago, so if you buy a Quattroporte Automatic today, you’ve got nothing to be concerned about. Equally, the problem is with Bosch' component, not anything Maserati itself has produced. However, with 96 cars affected here, 38 affected in Australia, and 595 in the USA, it's an episode that the Modenese car-maker will want to quickly forget. Haveing both ecu and geabox error do point to the battery being an issue, have you tried to trickle charge the battery?

Had the RAC out today, they confirmed that the battery was showing low charge. I purchased a new one but still will not start, the RAC guy managed to get the fault codes: PO807 Clutch Position Sensor & PO806 C.P.S has anyone had these on the forum before? and what does C.P.S mean? and how much did it cost to fix? any help would be grateful.

Found out what C.P.S is: Clutch Position Sensor. I have found out also what the codes means: PO806 = Clutch Position Sensor Circuit Range / Performance , PO807 = Clutch Position Sensor Circuit Low. Now I know what they mean my next question is does it mean I need a new clutch :( any help would be grateful.

Neil,
I imagine this is linked to the battery replacement. It might be worth trying another battery reset to see if it clears the issue and then get it on an SD3 to see what your clutch wear is showing.

Hi Klive, How do you complete a battery reset and what's an SD3? Apologies for my ignorance... Thanks Nick

Battery re-set.
Car in N, hand brake on.
Drop the drivers window and open boot, engine off, keys out.
Switch off main power via the switch above the battery, or disconnect if you do not have this [its a round button you rotate to switch the power off] Leave boot open and drivers window
Leave for 15 mins, and grab a cuppa.
Put key into ignition via open window and start car leave running without touching anything until the cooler fans kick in.
Job done

SD3; System Diagnostic 3, there are versions 1, 2 and 3, three being the most modern. It is the Ferrari/Maserati factory computer system which finds and re-sets faults, sets clutch bite, ballance etc

@ Safrane, Thanks! I bought my car in October but since I'm overseas a lot I've only had it on the road for a week since then. Thanks to the forum I knew to invest in a good battery charger which I could leave on whilst I'm away, hopefully warding off problems. I had the clutch wear checked out when I bought the car, just wondered if it was something you could do using the car's computers, obviously not. When I get back I'll get into the headlamp levelling problem. Cheers, Nick

Hi all, Thanks Peter with the advice regarding the battery re-set that might be useful. The car as we speak is at the garage as it was dropped off by the RAC late Friday, I will keep everyone updated regarding what they say but please feel free to add your posts if anyone thinks of anything else which might help. Was rolling around in my head, coupled with the fact that a clutch sensor is involved, is the car simply stalling itself?

It's the first time it's stated Transmission Failure Go To Dealer Slowly, it has stalled once before shortly after purchasing the car 18 months ago and the garage just put a new battery in it and seemed to run ok afterwards.

Hi all, I'm sorry for the long delay updating but just managed to get up from the chair after getting quotes. Well story so far: I got the RAC two weeks ago to deliver the QP to the garage I purchased the car from, and after a number of phone calls they have quoted me £2580 for the Clutch Positioning Sensor & new Clutch fitted. Because of the long period of time waiting for a quote I thought I would get a couple to compare, Maserati Maranello based in Egham quoted a eye watering £4950 and Maserati Colchester £2887. I thought I would just do one more google search for Maserati specialists in Hertfordshire and found SB Race Engineering, based in Watford. I checked the website out and looked pretty good so emailed them, they have got back to me quoting £2340 not bad :) My question is has anyone on this forum used this garage if so any feedback good or bad would be grateful.

Why don't you try using SupercarHub. They will get you a series of quotes from reputable dealers and independants. I have used them for the annual service and quotes for clutch replacement. Highly reccommended

Hi,

I believe its routine to swap out this sensor when you have a new clutch as its cheap to buy but the labour costs are high. Doing the two together saves paying twice. Have you tried Millbrooke cars in Sheffield?

http://www.millbrookecars.com/maserati.html

They are around £1700 last time I called. Maybe the dealer nearest to you can price match or improve on what they quoted due to the distances involved?

Have you tried McGrath's?  They're in Herts too.

I've not used SB, but I've seen them mentioned before and generally spoken of in a good light, IIRC.
