Hi I`am new on this forum and from Norway so not that good in english.

But I have now had my 2001mod manual 3200gt for a few weeks and was looking into getting a little more power.

Have Now put on new custom intakes and open air filters and just about to build a full stainless twin 2,5" exhaust with 2
300cell racing cats and smal rear boxes.
I am looking to get a ECU retune and contactless TB after all is finished.
But Last night I was out testing too see how much boost the car was running on before I upgraded the ECU.
In  4. gear the boost are 1.2 bar(18psi) from spoolup until 5200rpm and drops down to 1.0bar(16psi) until 6500rpm.

I have not any good documents from last owner so I dont know if this is original or allready retuned.

Have anybody els teste how much boost their 3200gt have??????
Felt this is much moore than standar.
Going to get it on the rollers after my exhaust are finished too see how much power before a retune.

Realy need a answer before I send the ECU for the retune.(If I need one)

I am more from the bike world but I can provide some input bearing in mind no one has answered this yet, based on my experience of tuning turbo bikes. I might be totally wrong about this but here's my thoughts for what they are worth... I would reallly like to know the answer to that too. Modding the wastegate is a really easy way of turning up the power and its very easy. I have an instant mod for the IHI not involving bleeding off the wastegate feed. From memory 18psi is about 2.5 atmospheres. That means heat and detonation/knock melted pistons and lean mixtures unless the car has either been designed or modded for it. 2.5 atmospheres theoretically turns the 3200 into to 8000cc engine whoopeee!! Knowing the compression ratio of the 3200 as standard should help. I'd have guessed a compression ratio of about 8 to get that sort of compression on a water cooled petrol engine with an intercooler. If I were you I would use the higher ron petrol if you are boosting to that level - chances are your knock sensor is working overtime on the standard petrol and its not noticeable just flattens your top end delivery off a little. Cheers Zomb

That does seem pretty high as most turbo cars seem to run 0.5 to 0.8 bar of boost. As mentioned you start running into overheating problems unless you run bigger intercoolers or water injection an/ or lower the compression.

A little update.
after talking to modena i found out that my car are retuned to around 420-450bhp at this boost level.
Are now in the garage and getting a full bodykit fitted inc Lexani 20" rims and KW v3 coilovers.
Will at the same time build the 2,5" stailess exhaust with the wibrant 300cell race cats
Also found out that with the 4200 front bumper there are little or no flow of air to the intercooler so
I have ordred a twin inlet/outlet front mounted intercooler that will work much better.
Realy looking forward to get the car done and injoy it the rest of the summer.
Just too let you know I think the car runs realy good at this boost level but hope to get moore sound with the new exhaust.

Too ZombieUK: the 3200gt have elektonoicaly controlled boost so you adjust the boost with the ECU upgrade.
So it is no use to thighten the acutators. And the car runs more like 0,7-0,8 lowboost and around 1.0 bar at overboost.
I testet det boost more and my car runs more like 1.1 lowboost and 1,3 at overboost so it is not that hige, It has aftermaked
rear boxes for more flow and sound.

rotorheadcase: This car have so good cooling so heat is no problem yet. and the original intercooles are much bigger than other cars I have tuned on before. ex the Nissan 200sx s14a have only one that is much smaller than the 3200s and the nissan made 280hp on the one original running 1,15 bar boost all day and night.
But the plastic tanks on the intercooler are not the best for hige boost, so looking forward to get the all alu FMIC

Will post some pics later when the wheels and body are done.

I remember reading somehere (though I cannot for the sake of my life remember where) that standard boost on the 3200 GT is 0.95 bar maximum. I'm not sure what safe boost would be for the IHI RHF5B turbines, but at least 1.3 bar seems to be safe and would, given that the 0.95 bar figure is correct, produce some 435-ish horsepower.

I'll join in on the request for future pictures as well. Best of luck with your project!

Hi again.

The car are now soon ready, did a test drive tonight but several problems came up.

first of all it got so low that the new front mounted intercooler almost scrached the asphalt.

Second the check engine light came on and I read code 1225 and 1226. have had this before and delited them but now they came back imidetly.
Can someon pleas tell me what this code means, lamda???? TB????

will take some more photos and post them soon. the car looks sick now.

I like the look of the car, I would not do it to mine but the fibre glass front and rear bumpers fit well, and the paintwork finsih looks really good , I bet this took a lot of time to get right.  I can also understand the problem with the 3200 intercoolers they must be getting very little air with a front designed for a 4200. Can you advise who supplied the  ecu upgrade to increase boost  as I am interested in getting mine done.

Have now used the cars for a few weeks and all are working fine, just the error light because of the KWv3 coilovers.
Love the sound of the exhaust, and drove with a friend that have a 2001 ferrari 360 and must say my car are much faster on the street.
Too Rex B: I don`t know ho did it, got the car that way. But If I will reflash again I will use Modena Performance. expensive but they deliver most power and have done it alot.

Frode

Interesting project with variant 3 KWs but they should have given you instructions to disable the electronic suspension active ride (aka Skyhook). This would eliminate the suspension Errors you are getting.

Is your car originally an Assetto Corsa or were your Assetto coilovers previously added as a retro fit? What is the free (unfitted) length of your Assetto springs both front and rear? Also how many coils and what is the wire thickness

For boost calculations, 1 bar = 14.7psi

hope this helps

The manual for the coilovers did say thet a original maserati dealer shuld disable the original el. and fix the error. But I have not had time to do this.

Will mesure and take photos of the original coilovers.

My car have the assetto corsa rims and stainless assetto corsa door guards.
Also carbon ventilation pips on the front brakes.

Are all original coilovers hight adjustable????

I did see somewhere on KW's site that a dealer should disable the electronic suspension. However, the traction control settings (normal/sport) are integrated with suspension where fitted. It must be possible as the standard 3200s were available either with or without electronic suspension but both have sport button although this is sometimes labeled PWR. It may be possible to disable just the suspension using SD2/SD3 equipment and perhaps this is why KW refer to a dealer.

Yes, all original coilovers are height adjustable but adjustment is limited on the front when lowering due to interference with the anti roll bar on full droop. There is a difference in part numbers between earlier and later models for the shock absorbers and between standard and the stiffer AC springs. If you can see the 2 sets of part numbers (Front/rear) on both springs and shocks I can check the application.

Thanks for checking the springs (free length etc) this would be very helpful.

hope this helps
