I am convinced that there are quite a few of you out there that are able to give me a good advice!

I have on offer the following Quattroporte coupe's:
(1) 2004 model 1 500 miles at a price of USD 77 000
(2) 2006 model 44 000 miles at a price of USD 54 000

Both cars have been equipped with more or less the same options!

Which car would you choose?

I am looking forward to your feedback!

All the best.

There is a $23,000 price difference between the two models. This is a substantial sum.  The 2004 model price is high due to the extremely low mileage. With normal use that total will rise and so will the rate of depreciation. However, if the vehicle is to be kept and cherished in a garage for much of it's life then it could be preserved for posterity as a classic car of the future. There were software changes to the F1 gearbox (kinder to the clutch) with the 2006 model.  Nineteen inch wheels were also introduced.  Buying any Maserati is not just a matter of economics but a decision taken by the heart. You could therefore choose either model... Given the brief facts I think I would choose the 2006 QP........ Good luck with your purchase!

Paul, thank you for your advice! ..... I see your points and I appreciate your opinion. Some additional facts that works in the favour of the 2004 model; the transmission has been changed approx 6 months ago. Furthermore, the car is newly painted and it looks very appealing.

I have been reading both this forum and the US Maserati forum, and I understand that the ZF (automatic transmission) was introduced in the 2007 model.

I also understand that the clutch for the models prior to 2007 need to be changed (from reported 10 000 miles - ????). Now, will I extend the lifetime of the clutch by selecting the auto mode instead of the manual when I am driving the car with duo transmission ?

Good morning. Whichever model you choose I would recommend an independant inspection. This needs to be done by someone who has Maserati expertise.  It will cost a few dollars but it is well worth the investment. Their opinion could be valuable not just for the mechanical issues but for their professional view regarding the paintwork and condition.  For example a person with a trained eye will see immediately if the car has been painted to the edges of the roof and A pillars or whether the windscreen was removed to complete the job......  You are correct about the introduction of the conventional ZF gearbox with torque convertor.  It has a great reputation and is currently in use with Jaguar and Bentley motor cars..... From your last paragraph I am not certain whether the 2004 car has been fitted with a new ZF gearbox or duo select F1 arrangement.  With the duo select, wear to the clutch will be mitigated by using the system in manual mode with paddle shifts. Driven sensibly the clutch could last tens of thousands of miles.
