Very happy to join this forum; having spent several days reading through the posts.
I am taking delivery of a Bordeaux 4200 in about a week's time and , like most of you, cannot wait for the moment.
My memories of Maserati go back to my childhood in the early 1950s when the name was much revered (as it is again now) and since then this was always my ambition to own one. My choice, whilst older than I would have liked, has a remarkably low mileage verified by the service history, and so I expect to have many years service.

Mark

Thanks for the reply P.

I have bought the car from ADG in Kent.
I decided about two years ago (or earlier if you think of the time I sold my AR GTV Cup and nearly bought one) that the only car I really wanted would be a 4200.
Since then I have watched every car (nearly) sold on car sites (Auto Trader, Pistonheads etc) and monitored prices and mileages.
I was determined about the colour having seen one in Bordeaux in the Brooklands Ultimate Maserati Book; and knew it had to be either blue or Bordeaux (what's the correct term incidentally?). Price was less important than mileage - I wasn't fussy about age though the late '03/04 is my preference.
So along came this one and all I have to do is collect. All else done and it's in the condition I want with the 'camel' colour interior (again I don't know the correct term for this colour). It has covered 26,000 miles, which is fine with me.
I am thinking of having it as a long-term prospect (though my sons think I should update to a GranTourismo in 3 years time), and it is with this in mind that I have opted for this particular car.

Make sure you get a full inspection by a company that is totally independent from the dealer.  Make sure it's not crash damaged.   Dont make the same mistake I did.

Thanks Gring.

I have already gone too far for that.
However there is an HPI which, I think, covers any write-off history.
I have done a pretty fair check myself of panel gaps, paint colours and finishes etc.
If there has been damage it's invisibly rectified.
What damage did yours have?

Now I'm anxious about the dealer ADG.

I am going to get an inspection carried out but I wonder if anyone else has worries and can tell me before I book the inspection tomorrow.
Should I be worried?

Hi Mark

ADG is one of the more respected Mas indies, and I think a few forum members have done business with them (search ADG and I'm sure you will find a few posts). An independent inspection is not a reflection on any particular dealer but a safeguard, as buying a lemon could cost you £'s which is why you will find so many Mas owners recommending one.

An independent pre-purchase inspection will normally cost £250-350 and will be money well spent, as it should either reveal faults which can be used in price negotiation, or find nothing and give you some peace of mind.

On a technicality, I think an HPI check will only ever reveal reported theft or damage, usually where the owner has made an insurance claim on the car or DVLA has been informed of write-off or scrap action. It therefore follows that if an owner doesn't report damage or loss to the insurers nothing will be passed to HPI. It is then possible for a sub-standard vehicle to appear with a clean bill of health.

Phil,
nice of you to make that post.
It's reassuring since I have been anxious.
I am going to get the inspection carried out for peace of mind - unless it throws up something dreadful.

Mark

Would always advise on your own HPI check - with newer cars the bigger issue is unresolved finance. Most perfomance cars would have been financed at least once, so even if the current seller (private or dealer) does not owe any finance company, a previous seller might do. At the end of the day the V5 doc proves nothing and it is your money at risk if it transpires that finance is still owing.
Saying all that ADG seem to have a great reputation for selling lots of maserati and fixing any issues that arrive. Never the cheapest, but at the end of the day who really wants the cheapest...............
Enjoy your new car - sure it will be squeaky clean.

Hi Mark,
I'm also a newbie seriously thinking of getting a Maserati from ADG.
Can you let me know who did the inspection and whether you'd recommend them as I'll need to go thro the same process if I go ahead?
So far I've found the guys at ADG to be nothing but A1.
Regards & hope the inspection and car meets your expectations.
Regards
Ken

Thanks rs48635 & k99.
Nice to hear of others who rate them.
So far they have been excellent so will update as I get towards the goal.
I am having the RAC do the inspection for £299 which they do for performance cars - more than their advertised rates on their website but suitable for something like the 4200s.
k99, which one are you looking at; there is a manual model and a Cambiocorsa available, plus a couple of GSs and a G.Tourismo which is fantastic.
There was someone there on Friday lunchtime showing interest in them, was that you?

Robin has been very helpful and has welcomed the RAC inspection has has gone 'the extra mile' to make it happen.

Time will tell and I'll keep you informed.

Hi Chris,
Wasn't there on Friday and I'm looking for a GS.
I've narrowed it down to one at ADG and another at an independent up North.
Will probably go for the one in the North unless ADG make me a good deal.

To be honest I couldn't achieve more than £500 reduction - I tried for more but it wasn't a starter.
Whilst you can buy cheaper, the cars are in good condition and well prepared (subject to the Thursday inspection of course) and I am happy to pay a bit more to get the low mileage.
Also the HPI check I ran came back with a valuation exactly the amount I am paying - incidentally there is a difference of nearly £4k between 26k miles and 54k miles for the same year - again according to HPI valuations.
RAC have been overly helpful all round.
