Hi all,

Another new guy to the forum who's taken my first dip into Maserati ownership.  I've recently taken delivery of a GranSport MC Victory with approximately 7000 miles on the clock and was wondering if someone could help me who's far more knowledgeable about the car.

I've noticed that while driving at slow speeds (in town, over speed bumps etc.) that a squeak appears to be coming from the off side front suspension.  Would anyone be able to help diagnose what the fault may be or whether there was a common fault in these cars?  Although only a small fault, with what is a fantastic car, I can see it becoming and irritable problem.  I'm going to book it into Graypaul for it to be looked at, but any information that I can go armed with would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Drew

Welcome to the forum.

Firstly, thats a fine choice - and a rare beast indeed!  What colour/number did you get?  Are you in the UK?  Would love to see some pics.

Re the squeeking, its a common fault on GranSports and, IIRC, quite an easy fix.  Someone will be along shortly who knows more than me, but I believe its a case of replacing the suspension arm tie rods.  I recall reading a similar post on this and the resolution was pretty simple.  I'll see if I can find the thread....

Again, welcome to MF and when you get a chance, let us know about your MCV :)

Woody

Thanks Woody, that's given me something to go to the dealer with.  Hopefully I can get it sorted on the warranty!  I was hoping that the problem would just sort itself out as it's been a second car for someone else and rarely used.

With regards to the car, it's #152, Blu Victory with full alacantra interior, first registered in 2007.  I was originally after a low milage LE but stumbled across this by chance.  I have been told by Graypaul that it's the lowest milage version in the UK, but whether this is true or not remains to be seen.  However, it's beautiful and the seats really are something else.

I've uploaded a few pictures (apologies as they are the ones the dealer gave me when I first found the car) but I will post some more at the weekend when she's been cleaned and waxed

If you could find that thread it would be much appreciated, I just don't want to get fobbed off by the dealer due to claiming on the warranty.

Thank you Peter. I've read the various threads regarding your car, I just hope you got all off your issues sorted with it. Did I read somewhere that you had suspension issues with your MCV?

Well the car has been booked in to be looked at on Monday so I'll report back when I've got some answers. Fingers crossed the problem can be diagnosed and there's an easy solution.

Might just be a dry rubber, that needs lubricating.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on a great car.

Wow, what a car!  How did you find that?  I keep an eye on GSs and didnt ever see this one advertised.  Looks superb....thats one to lock away :)

I've had a good look on a couple of other forums, suggestions seem to be that the roll bar bushes need lubricating or the suspension arm lower bushes.  I dont believe either are expensive fixes.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks very much to all for the warm welcome.

Just an update as I've just got back from dropping the car off at Graypaul Birmingham - they are a litlle perplexed as to where the noises are coming from, but it's been confirmed that it's not just the offside front but ALL corners of the car.  The technician mentioned it could be a problem with the top mount of the suspension arms (not sure what that all means to be honest - if someone could explain it would be much appreciated).  They've taken a video recording, including sound and sent it off to Maserati UK to see if they've come across this problem before.  I've been told that I'll hear back shortly, but the good news is it's all covered under warranty.

Sad to have lost the car for a few days (it's like owning my Alfas all over again!)

LittleBro - I found it by just ringing around.  I was looking originally for a low milage 2007 LE (<20k miles), but kept finding GranSports around 25k - 35k milage mark.  I thought by ringing my nearest dealer that they maybe able to do some of the sourcing for me, and they just happend to have this in stock.  To say I was lucky puts in mildly!  However, I don't think I could ever lock it away, I think it's important that people get to see these cars and for my own pleasure, of course!

I will report back when I've heard more, as hopefully my experience will help others in the future if it arises again.

Superb.  I dont ever rember seeing it avertised, I'm guessing it wasnt?

Yep, totally agree with you that they should be used.  I bought mine intending to use it so wasnt *too* bothered about miles, 20-30k was the target.  Mine had 29800 when I first saw it, 30500 when I owned it.  I've done 12k in it in 12 months :)

Re the squeeking, I'm very surprised they've not come across it before.  Keen to see what they come back with, but I'm sure it will be the suspension bushes.

Keep us posted.

I've had the car back, and great service from Graypaul too.  Car was returned spotless, inside and out.  They originally tried lubricating the bushes but the squeaking still continued.  This lead to them changing both top mounts on the front suspension, and thus far, all noise has disappeared.  The work was roughly £270 + VAT (if it wasn't under warranty as it was in this case).  Hopefully this can help someone else if they have this problem.

LittleBro - I'm never usually too bothered in terms of milage, but in this case, considering the "known" troubles with the model (clutch, F1 pump, bearings etc), I didn't want to get stuck with a decent sized bill for labour and replacement parts immediately after purchasing the car.  As far as I know it wasn't advertised, I did a pretty comprehensive search but wasn't really looking for an MC Victory at the time.  However after seeing it my mind was pretty much made up on the spot!

Thanks to everyone for all your help, it is very much appreciated.

Beautiful car ............ I have an MCV in grigio touring #51. had it 2 years now and enjoyed every minute. drove it to Harlech from London in November and was blessed with glourious sunshine while driving through the welsh countryside. Windows down "sport" on listening to that glourious engine. hope you enjoy yours as much as i have mine.

not had any noises from the suspension but by the sound of it that's a bit of luck. had to have the clutch replaced and recently the radiator becuse of a a leak, but otherwise she's worked like clockwork! (touch wood).

Just out of interest, you're isnt the one with quite possibly THE perfect reg plate is it?  IIRC there's only one in Grigio Touring (I might be wrong) and it has a gem of a plate!

Apologies for the slow reply

I got the plate changed to G5 MCV ........ about 6 months after i bought the car. tried to get the GS 06 MCV that was on the original promotional pictures for the MCV but some lucky bugger already has it. however now quite like the simplicity of her new plate. Looks great I think
