To my understanding it simply makes gearchanged "sportier". Does not open any valves on the exhaust.

On the GT only the 4.7 has a valve on the exhaust. Larini can retro fit a similar system to the 4.2 at a cost.

As stated above, only the 4.7 have the valves that allow the sound to be changed.

Larini have just released a set of rear exhaust boxes, with valves which allow you to control the sound. The valves are operated via a remote control which open or close the valves in the exhaust. Feel free to give us a call to discuss any of the options.

Thanks

I always thought the Sport GT had the bypass valves installed? It is probably my imagination but I am sure the car sounds throatier and louder when I press the "Sport" button than when in normal mode. I know it goes through gear changes quicker but the note sounds different? As I say, maybe my imagination!

I had read something along these lines:

"A more vocal exhaust (thanks to bypass valves) gives the Sport GT a deeper and more distinctive voice, and completes the package of upgrades"

In the following article:

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/67221/maserati_quattroporte_v_bmw_m5_v_mercedes_cls_55.html

But it may not be talking about exactly the same thing...

Hi Björn,

Larini is one of the best choices for an exhaust upgrdae on a Maserati.

This is what the Larini rear exhaust boxes with valves look like for the GranTurismo 4.2. I believe the rear boxes for the QP will be similar to these.

A member on here upgraded with this system on his Rosso GT 4.2 see the the thread below for more details.

Best Regards,

I have opened up this thread in a US-forum: http://www.maseratilife.com/forums/showthread.php?p=96724&posted=1#post96724

I am still a bit curious about which types of exhaust is on the European market (particularly the German in case it is different..) and what their sound profiles are like?
