Hi,

I got my Maserati finally together for this season few weeks ago. I got many of the problems fixed over the winter but I still have a little problem with idling, especially with cold engine.
The problem is that when I take my foot off the gas pedal, revs tend to drop almost to zero and sometimes engine also stalls. If engine doesn’t stall then the revs jump up again and start to sway for about 5-10 seconds until all clears out. This happens also with a warm engine, but when engine is cold this kind of swaying takes place even without touching gas pedal.
What might be the reason for this?
Vacuum leak? Water temperature sensor?(although I replaced it just last year)
I would grateful for any speculation over the problem.

hey buddy, i own a 2.8 v6 spyder, and i sometimes have the same issue, we call it hunting, when the revs bounce up and down sometimes stalling.
well, this is normally a very simple case of 2 things,
1: air screw set too tight n not allowing correct revs
2: air screw covered in oil etc n giving engine ecu inncorrect mesurements of air flow=bouncing revs etc

cure, on the right of ur air plenum, u will see a red unit(plastic) which leads to a largeish brass screw, well, unsrew completely, and thouroughy wipe clean, usually covered in oil etc and then put back in, till about 2\3 mm left protruding, then start car and wait till choke cuts out and simply screw in or out to set idle speed
i hope thius solves your problem

Hi,

Thanks for the response! Fortunetly I got the problem already solved. Problem was that someone had turned the air screw completely shut. But now it runs great!.
