Hi guys iam new to maserati´s and this forum, hope u can take some time for me :)

I have some questions about the car and its performance.

1. What´s the MAX of each tubocharger fitted? (model name?)
2. What´s the CC of each injector?
3. Gearbox and rear differantial good stuff?
4. The engine´s weak spot?
5. Size of brake disc´s ?
6. Pistons forged?

Hope u can take some time and help me sort this questions out.

Best R

Hi Jonas

Q 1 Maserati 430/4V goes on IHI turbochargers 52mm i think, boosting standard 0,7-0,75 bar
Q 2?
Q 3, Yes gearbox and diff is good stuff, wery strong, maintain to change oil in the engine AND differential for each 10tkm, and check the shims on the front of the diff, whith a gauge every time, and you wont get in probs.
Q 4 Engine weak spot I think is the turbochargers, allways let them cool off when shutting down the engine.
Q 5 standard 280mm vent in front (430 18V) im looking for replacement too 310mm from Quattroporte, maby it will happend, if possible, it will be the end whith smaller than 16" wheels.
Q 6?

A Maserati biturbo needs some extra servicetime used, if you want too drive whith no probs. good luck

Q4 As Baze says always always allow the turbo's to cool before turning off but other tha that the biggest issue must be the cambelt and chains unless they are monitored and changed when necessary........... this can be a time consuming and dear part of the service .schedule

Hi Baze, any chance of a run down of what you've down to increase the power?
Thanks

Yes!

I had a 430 2,8L US 18V Maserati 225bhp whith cat. carbody in very good shape

and I had a 1995 Quattroporte 2,8L rusty-had to do something.

then I cut out all the wiring of the 430Masa, and the 18Vengine

After that, I split the quattroporte 2,8L 24V 284bhp totally, took the wiring complete, and put the engine into the 430! the 24V QP engine performs standard 284bhp whith catalyst, and then forget about catalyst and bypasses on exhaust?? and there you go 310bhp

beware!!! dont do it!!!!! its a Megajob, and whitout my friend Palle, the car would be dead, but he just took one wiringcircle at the time, and now it fixed I owe him bigtime

themes:
new wiring complete
new tank
new whiper engine
new wacumbox
exhaust headers changed + 2x lambdas inserted
2x new engine control boxes
Battery placed in luggageroom
fitting 2x aircleaners as in Quattroporte in the front where batt was before

and +100 loose ends for lights, lights adjustment, doorlights, door closings, and lockings, well just about everything, but now the doorwindows are closing more than 2x quick, the sunroof too, and wipers are as in a new car, very nice indeed!

We did the job in 18days, very much indeed focused!

A major difference on the engine, is that it now performes whith 6x individual ignitioncoils, and what is it called?? the turning ting for distributing ignition for the sparks?? distributer is gone???

you can see the projekt here, sorry on danish, but if you dont understand, say so, and I will try to make it understandedable in English-

Baze,  I see you removed the wings etc from the QP.  How were they attached?  Bolted? seam welded (unlikely!)? Spot welded?
Difficult job?

the wings are bolted on, and relative easy to remove, althoug you need to take off the plastic protektion inside wheelcase, and the sidepanel under the doors (skirt), and the rustfree logo plates right under the doors too, on my QP logoplates were fitted whith pop nittes?? (dont quite know if thats the right name for it??)

The 430 has an bolted on Catalyst. So I made a piece in 2,75" pipe, and welded on a copy of the connections too.

The new pipe fits as if it was the original, its just straight out now, and whithout any carametics inside actually it is possible to see the pipe made, and fittet on in the upper link, have a look on site 3 in the upgrading thread.

the Maser430 works very fine, and sounds REALLY nice - next issue is grip cant get it to grip on dry surface below about 7celcius - rearwheels 255/40/17 Yokohama spinns consequently every time i try out.

Thanks! I’m thinking of doing the same thing with my 222SR.

Baze that looks like a really good conversion that you have carried out well, I would love to see the car the enhanced performance must be great.

Have you had the car on a rolling road to check the power output at all? where did the extra 26bhp figure come from is it an extimate or has it been measured?

I was looking at your photo's and one thing struck me.....I am not familiar with the exhaust pattern on the 430 but surely the QP system is similar to the Ghibli with two pipes into and out of the cat? therefore marrying the QP engine to the 430 exhaust, which seems to be a single pipe, would be restrictive and may not allow the turbos to spool up as quickly or fully. The new fabricated pipe looks good for the purpose but I am left wondering....is it a big enough bore after the junction 2 into 1?

To remove the cat on the Ghibli would require 2 pipes to be let into the system with a crossover between them, does the 430 system split to two exit pipes again somewhere around the rear axle I guess?

Shame the QP rusted great result though!

Hi Malc & co

1. I did not have it rolled yet, maby I will, so the extra 26hp is for now a guess! but if you look in the 430 manual there are 2 datas, one whith, and one whithout CAT the difference in the book says 25bhp 2,8L 18V Engine 225bhp / 250bhp

2. spool up time?the frontpart (Headers) of exhaust is dimentioned as the Quattroporte exhaust, but the flow in the rest of the pipe is almost simmilar to the Quattroporte. it respondes well and from low rpm too.

3. another thing not before mentioned is that the two main steeringboxes comes from a 2,8L 24V Maserati-------Ghibli  any idea of what the result of that could be (smiling)

Only the adapter pipe 2,75" is the two in one piece, after that the exhaust split in two again, so now is the time, where you go measure the ghiblipipe, and will find out that you have 2x2" piping the area inside 2x2" vs 1x2,75" is very close to the same

Agree whith the Quattroporte- sad to kill it, but the soul from it, lives on perfectly in a verygood condition Maserati 430 1170kg

Love it!

Agree it is all about pipe volume at the end of the day....As you have probably seen on other posts Rich and I have stripped the Ghibli for track use and it looks like having an interchangeable set of pipes with a crossover to swap with the cat is a quick and simple source of a few extra BHP and probably better performance.....faster spooling up of the turbos etc....won't cost much either!

That interchangeable crossover is one of the next projekts here, my friend Thomas drives Quattroporte, and the exhaust from my killed QP is to be rebuilt whit the crossover in straight pipes, and no ceramics inside!

I will have spooluptime in memory, so maby we should build the pipe-thing in 2 x 2,25" stainless this time - just to be sure

Il be back
