Hi guys,

As you know I am the proud owner of the Maserati Forum and I am thinking of forming a new Maserati (& Supercar owners) Clubhouse in Surrey (possible area is Fleet).

My idea is this: you could come to have your Maserati or Supercar professional pampered (as in top valeting) by an enthusiast (me and possibly one other)

and also available on site you could arrange to meet other supercar owners  - have coffer/tea or perhaps buy bits for your car etc.

Also on site there will be a professional windows tinting expert to privatise your windows to give you a little more in privacy and glare protection. Certainly this adds a touch of class to your vehicle.

This clubhouse could be open 7 days a week.

So tell me; what do you think? Would you use the clubhouse services? What do you want to see at the new clubhouse? What polishing brand would you prefer us to use? How much would you spend? What shall we call the clubhouse? (Supercar & Maserati Clubhouse?)

I have located a possible area in Fleet but does anyone have any unused land and/or farm buildings/warehouses available (for free or v.cheap)? Perhaps any Maserati owners who may be interested in investing in this project, though this is not important.

Your answers will help me decide if this venture is worth pursuing...

Thanks!

I assume the window tinting expert will base their business at the site thus reducing overheads, not a bad idea at all.  I would expect limited business (but cerainly some) business to be generated by the forum, after all it is a one-off job.

I like the idea of the clubhouse, how often I'd use it is another matter - not as much as I would like to is the obvious answer.

As for the valeting services - is this going to be the base for a valeting service too then? It will need to appeal to a broader church than this forum to be sustainable, how many of us will pay to have our cars professionally valeted more than once a month (year)??!!  If the valeting co. (you??) uses the location for their general valeting business then again I understand the cross-subsidy.

The other point I would raise is if there is a bit of a gathering how many cars can be given the treatment at once?

Would drivers prefer to do their own cars ( or be able to) on-site with facilities provided at a lower cost and consumables available to purchase?

Interesting idea, there is scope for an Ace-Café type motoring church outside London I think, and there's plenty of folk around who like a shiny car!

Have to admit that mine seem to get quarterly attention at the moment what with me back injury in the summer and just having had me nuts tightened and even under these circumstances I don't let anyone approach them, let alone wash them....the cars and me nuts!

Love the idea of a club house but I don't seem to go up the M3 much these days and always on a deadline when I do. I think I would rather meet at an auto event or as per the meets earlier this year, alright I know i had to bail out but there will come a time. Maybe if I was nearer?

Mind you I do like the idea of a southern Ace Cafe meet.

Hey I park up on Portsdown Hill most saturdays 'round midnight and have a bacon and mushroom baggie with a cup of tea.

PH has a history with me, so it is a place I gravitate to after a fast run out.

Not what you are looking for really, but there you go.

I like our quarter-day meets, it makes for a good meet if it is regular but not too often.

Next one is First sunday AFTER mothring sunday 2008!

Be there or be square daddio! [As Kent Walton might say!]

Hi Sounds like a good idea to me I'm local to the fleet area. I do have all my cars professionally detailed especial the Maserati and Tuscan MK2S I have been using Paul Dalton Miracle detail if you see his website you will see my Tuscan last time about 4 months ago I paid £700 that’s for 1 car inside and out however I do think that’s steep. The car looks fantastic but it could have been done equally as well for less money. So I'm on the lookout for good detailing service.
If there was a club house I would use it and I have a couple of friends who are not on the forum that would visit they are on the south coast.
My Maserati is the QP with special equipment

Let me know hoe you progress
Cheers Dave

Excellent feedback so far, thank you. Cannot say where in Fleet just yet as it is very early stages. I am also looking at Blackwater area; Frimhurst, Surrey - also close to Fleet.

£700 for a detail???  >/Paco throws his chips in < - this game just got too rich for my blood!!!

My car was clean this am and filthy this pm after a 30 mile commute, if I'd paid £700 it would make me cry

Good on you!!

I think a multimarque approach would work, I have plenty of respect for any petrolhead open-minded enough to gawp over an Aerial Atom as much as they would over a 308 or an Opel GT for that matter!

I would however seek to avoid the "element" that makes  certain well established forum such a tedious read

Make it invitation only (and yes mine had better be in the post)......

After careful consideration and seeing the huge costs involved (and we dont have the money) we wont be going ahead with this idea

Would it not be better to start with a small local club that meets once a month first?

You could build a membership base and then like most clubs form a charity and get some lottery funding.
Claim you are doing some sports or keeping something green and from past experience you will get some cash

Think this is a great idea even to someone like me at the other end of the country

Any excuse for a run down south and I would be interested

Couldn't the "clubhouse" be a roving one? I'm sure a lot of us are in different parts of the country at different times. Maybe a more vigorous use of the Forum Calender would show everyone when we are going to be in the general vicinity of each other?

Can we post locations on the calender?

Great ideas

Unfortunately at the moment I am in a awkward position however I hope to make this happen some day. One of our members sorted of started a little Maserati Forum Southern Group where recently we went to Castle Combe: http://www.maseratiforum.co.uk/tm.asp?m=16577

You can add locations and other info into the Calendar text box and it will auto add to the forum (only if you select the option to do this).

I just did this to show you how it looks:

I have changed the permissions so all members can now use the calender features. Future publish locations will now show up in the Events section of the forum.

To use, go to Calenders, select on the left 'Maserati Events' and in the calender grid click on the plus sign to add an event.

It takes a little get using too, but anyone who owns a Maserati gotta be smart!
