Hi Just going through the motions of an engine rebuild and considering options for either 1) New Clutch plate + cover + bearing if I can find one, or 2) re-manufactured from my supplied parts. Plate and cover seem fairly straight forward to source, but I am struggling to find anyone who recognises the part number for the bearing. Second route there are two options: past parts for £120 all in or Kestrel transmissions for a bit more than twice the price, but the clutch face is covered in Kevlar compound and springs replaced etc. They suggest a flywheel reface which they'll throw in, but are also offering flywheel lightening. My first reaction is, wow, great. Followed by wondering why Maserati wouldn't have done that as standard for a car that was considered overweight and underpowered. If I go for the kevlar option, I think I should just stick to the re-face, but am wondering what other people's thoughts are? Also, kevlar clutch sounds like it has nirvana-like qualities: 3 times the lifespan plus less wear to faces. Is this just the marketing blurb?! Can't help but remind myself how much effort it was to get to the clutch in the first place! Very interested to know your thoughts
