Hi all - the strip down and rebuild of my Merak engine continues to reveal more surprises.. I've found some bits and thought I'd share:

Cylinder sleeves - after a lot of research and much negotiation I've found a company who'll supply machined to size + honed cast iron liners (as original) for approx £650 + delivery for the set. This is by far the best price I've come across but let me know if you know otherwise.

Bearings - my mains are okish but I am considering changing the Big Ends. I've found someone who can supply .050, 0.10 and 0.20 mains and big ends for approx £460 engine set. Mains will need the holes adding for SS engines.

I'm still looking for Gasket sets - Eurospares seem to be the cheapest.

Do get in touch if you're after these bits as well - maybe we can combine orders and get some extra discount. The sleeve cost I know is loaded with set up fees which could be reduced with more sets.

Best regards from Cheshire

Hello Pete,

my shells were £350 for mains, similar for big ends, £500 for gasket set from B Mcgrath,

front chain and oil hole kit from Andy Brodie, top chains from Reynold, £30 each.

luckily dont need cyl liners.  only had 2 thrusts though sourcing the bottom pair again from Mr Brodie.

Help wanted for aligning cams though, it says in the manual line up cams  A to B, but my SS engine has a scribe line on the cam cap but sodall on the camshaft which is puzzling, help please.
regards Peter

Interesting thread...I'm about to build a couple of V6 engines, being a poorly paid engineer I need to be imaginative with sourcing parts.

I have found that a moto guzzi uses the same timing chain as the shorter Maserati item and it's available in a heavier duty than reynolds cain, also I'd like to make a more robust chain tensioner.

Also the big-ends are massive could they be ground smaller (offset, increasing stroke) to use H-beam alfa v6 rods and pistons (bigger bore)...just thinking aloud!
