Status: offline 		Just sharing some experience.
I've just replaced my rears after taking them right down to the legal limit. They were fitted in March 2009 and have done a little over 22k miles, including a Goodwood trackday and a wet handling day. The wear was even across both, although the nearside was more worn in the centre due to the occasional over inflation ( I tend to go to 2.05 bar instead of 2.0).

Are they particularly hard rubber or something?

Status: offline 		I have no comparison experience to share and I intend to keep with the Michelins. I expect to replace the fronts soon as well so a round £1000 on tyres every 2 1/2 years for this type of car can't be too bad.
The majority of these miles were long distance round trips but like most, I do enjoy reaching the legal limit as quickly as possible.
