Ooooo err!

Just had a very busy week and came on to take a quick look and couldn't see the wood fpr the trees!

Now i know I am "old" and will therefore resist change and also a known "grumpy old man" but....

IMO there are too many subjects can't just quickly look at the forum and see what is happening

Just my immediate reaction.....

I may be alone on this or maybe it will grow on me!

Cheers

Confused of Hampshire!

Similar initial reaction, although I am not 'old'!

The more fragmented it becomes I feel it's more likely that important threads/posts may be missed, especially those asking for assistance from other members who may never come across the post.

I'm not too familiar with forums but this may attract more traffic. I think we'll get used to it.

Looks way better I think. Before, the categories were too broad. You would see F1 related posts in the 4200 chat section :) It will take time but I am sure those used to the old system will get used to it. I also felt the older models (pre 3200) were kinda disregarded. There is enough meat on the bone now for all Maser owners.

I agree with tbody, I think the new categories are a good thing, may stop some newbies from launching into questions such as "3200 V 4200?" before they've even bothered to do any research.

Good stuff Birdcage, must have taken you a while to sort through all the threads, keep up the good work.

Getting my head around it now...As I said it was my knee jerk reaction!

I like the Maser related categories but find the "other" categories somewhat "extended"

Well done Birdgage...contentious issue!

Hey Marlon, the thread/post moving has taken me a good two thirds of a day, as many of the posts had to be moved individually. Aaaargghhh! So thank you for your words of encouragement. I look forward to recieving continued feedback (it is all of us who use this forum afterall) and hopefully we can settle on a layout that everyone can get on with. Consider this a works in progress if you will chaps.

Forgive the longish model descriptions in the 'model specific' categories - it's quite deliberate. I want all new/present members and viewers to really appreciate the great heritage of Maserati and hopefully we can get some more 'traditional/vintage' model owners on board, and get the classic side humming abit more.

I also look foward to seeing and reading more from the likes of Johnny Corcutt over in Holland with his 90's Ghibli - he has started posting here recently and he has a truely fascinating long-running Ghibli website/blog on the t'internet.

Hopefully the extra categories provide some joy/use to our members. Hopefully the business section will put more members in touch with each other. And oh yes, the F1 section will get interesting this year, fingers crossed for more overtaking please.

Cheers,

Brian

Looks good!

One thing that I always wonder about when posting is when to differentiate between technical and discussion because there is always a technical bit to most discussions.  Will just have to suck it an see.

I love getting stuck in mechanically and on other forums used in the past a lot of the users were able to do their own repairs and also offer technical opinions.  Now that 3200's are cheaper to buy and 4200's are going a similar way a resource like this is very important to current owners and potentials.

It will be the enthuasts that keep these cars worth any kind of premium and this forum is the best maserati resource in the UK currently.  Good luck with the changes and well done with the forum Brian.

After a couple of days of the new format, i for one really see it as too confusing and too much on one page, what happenend to the idea of sub topics accessed from a main thread,  this is the only forum i use on a regular basis , and although im not adverse to change  just seems to be taking me longer to quickly access the bits that interest me and (probably the majority 4200/3200 owners ) , so i cant see that as an improvement   the  change is all about improvement surely  quicker access , and i for one cant see that being achieved from the way its set out at the moment,

I understand  the idea is to increase wider coverage / models  and to improve clarity and help  but fail to see it being achieved in a confusing first page

Jmho

regards loz

I might be missing something, but I generally navigate by using the "posts since last visit" this then gives me a list of all the comments irrespective of what category they are in? I guess the confusion may come when I initiate conversations.

but apart from that i can cope with the changes.

Hi guys, particularly Loz :), before I start merging categories, which is something I would like to avoid, I have moved and renamed some categories - any better?

Things to rememeber:

Maserati Cars section

- 'General Maserati Discussion'. For general Maserati related chat/light hearted general Maserati banter i.e. why are all Maserati dealers just amazing? then please post under the 'General Maserati Discussion' category. We should use this category more please. Example, been to the factory in Italy - then post your findings here please. Seen a shocking Maserati interior, post goes here. Thinking of selling your Maser and getting another Maser and want general advice from ALL forum members, then post here please.

- 'Quattroporte V, GranTurismo, & GranTurismo S'. Most of our chat tends to be of a model specific, semi-technical, nature. In this case, please post in the relevant model specific category in the Maserati Cars section i.e. how do I find and fit a new carbon fibre centre console trim piece for a 3200GT, then please post this in the '3200 GT/....' category. These model specific categories are the ones we tend to use most, as the post count attests to.

- 'Technical Q&A'. Now, for SERIOUS technical matters i.e. if you are rebuilding your 4200 engine and want to share that with all of us, please post that in the 'Technical Q&A' category in the '4200' subfolder. This way you are helping build a resource centre for future users of the forum. Otherwise, if you post in the general 4200 area the post will get buried away.

Others section

- 'Non-Maserati Automotive Discussion', pretty self explanatory really. If it is not related to Maserati, but cars in general then it goes here please i.e. Why are all French cars so well built?

- 'Non-Automotive Discussion', in short this is our part of the world were we discuss all non car related matters i.e. Are the Royal family great?

- 'Other Supercars', anything related to exotic cars here please. Anything related to sports cars such as Lancia or Alfa would go in the 'Non-Maserati Automotive Discussion', as much as I do love my Alfas. So, want to share your thoughts on the new Lambo Gallardo, then it goes in here.

These are just general parameters to work too guys. Failure to post in the right section will not result in verbal abuse or punishment ;) (If needs be I can redirect the post to the relevant area) Feel your way round, and I am sure we will come to a happy medium. Bottom line, the 'Maserati Cars' section is were most of us will spend most of our time. Hopefully it's categories should be a little clearer now. Your thoughts?

Cheers,

Birdcage

robbiemac mentions the obvious, I ONLY use "Posts since last visit" as well, the easy way to keep bang up to date on all current discussions/topics. Makes no difference to me how many categories there are but for a visitor/newbie that wants to find specific information fast, then the new main page must be a big improvement on the old one.
