It looks quite sound, not perfect, hard to tell in the rain with low quality photos, but that is optimistic to say the least even it were concours.

Shame

As someone who has just paid £20,000 for an Evo I would like to say a few words. I have been looking for the right car for two years now, low mileage examples are few and far between. Most are 50.000 + miles and as they are quite fragile they do not age well. If this advertised example is as clean as the seller suggests then it is not too far from it's true value, 16-17 grand would nearer the mark as it's a private sale. I found a silver car in Switzerland that was close to 22 grand, same mileage as mine at 17.000 km. Meridien are including a one year warranty worth £1800 in the sale price so I feel I've got a pretty fair deal. If you are obsessed with this model as much as I am then you know who you are and you know what you're willing to pay. I became a member on this site today and will admit that I was sad enough to read the hundreds of "spotted" blogs, I am pleased to see that unless I missed it there was no mention of a QP Evo, so quoting a recent slogan, what price exclusivity?

Yes, that's correct sir.

I am quite amused myself but I think for different reasons. Like I said I have looked at four dogs all in the 12-13k segment, where I've driven for hundreds of miles to actually view them, the type where you climb inside and the steering column is lose or something equally worrying, the engines look filthy and the red parts are cracked and corroded, alloys scuffed all the way around the rims, I can go on. My car is really 18k when you remove the one year parts and labour warranty that comes with it, something I consider as peace of mind and not unreasonable. My real point is this though, aside from a new QP GTS or a black Shamal this is my all time favourite car, so for me it's a steal, and it's a keeper as well, so what's the big deal about the odd thousand here or there? Be glad instead that there are true enthusiasts out there and cars still going for this money, what would you rather I get in this range, a fully loaded Corolla, a 320i without aircon perhaps? Tempting I know, but I'd rather go for one of the fastest and most discreet saloons ever made, ABSOLUTELY indistinguishable frome new, with the best badge in the world. If I sound arrogant I can tell you I'm not, just having fun and enjoying all observations, would be nice if there was another Evo fan out there to back me up though he he. This is the last place I'd expect raised eyebrows, but I have gassed on long enough. Comments welcome.

Well done marlon on your purchase, and welcome to the forum ,

what some people fail to see, when they see others  which they consider to have paid in excess for their pride and joy , is the fact that that you are happy with your choice, you have done your homework, and found the best example you can ,  you have come away from the purchase as confident as anyone can and for that there is a price to pay and you have felt that it was worth it to pay it. (In your eyes Money well spent ) and after all thats what counts  Hope you have many happy miles as trouble free as possible im sure you wil take care of it  as has the previous owner and thats what its all about .

I my self come from the opposite end of the spectrum so to speak , re-righting cars that have been wronged   have so many times seen people come away from purchases who are unsure/perturbed  as to the worthyness or their car and end up with their fingers crossed half the time in hope .

Enjoy and we  look  forward to hearing and seeing more of you in the future, on here and at meets

Regards lozcb

If you're happy then as you say - that's all that matters - however £500 on a detail would have put one of these 'dogs' into pristine condition - so then you have to judge them on a mechanical basis - service history - mileage - work done etc.

I looked at the V8 Evos myself - £10k is the going rate for a good private car (40k miles) with minor niggles.  Even if you prepared it to concours condition, major cambelt service, suspension bushes, new tyres, brakes etc and warrantied it you'd come in under £15k.

You can keep you personal comments thanks Loz - I'm not interested .

It would be no different if it were a 3200 up for £30k.  You'd be very hard pushed to qualify buying one almost double the going rate. Meridien are notoriously expensive - as are Verdi.

Please tell me what's wrong with this and having £10k in your pocket?

As to making money or getting good value on cars stats i think i am a bit more qualified than where you come from stats , but unlike you im not in the habit of making judgements  putting people down for there  purchases , I was in actual fact relating to you in the previous post

(have so many times seen people come away from purchases who are unsure/perturbed  as to the worthyness or their car and end up with their fingers crossed half the time in hope .)  I f you rate your porschers so much then sell your masser and get another one . Have yet to hear you say something positive about the marque and your car  except how well you can sling a few picks together of how to do something really basic like changing some spark plugs    durrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rocket science .

Just lets be positive and try to be of a helpful nature with less negativaty

Just my three and fourpence worth

Regards loz

Loz you seem to have forgotten the original point of the thread. If £18k for a 24k mile car is too much 'even if it were concours' then how can £20k be a sensible purchse? I'm sure the car is lovely but I certainly wouldn't advise anyone do the same - hand on heart would you or anyone else here when every other thread baulks at dealer prices, depreciation and running costs?

Again a shame you resort to personal comments .

hi marlon,

good to see your new input is keeping us talking!

i agree with you and loz-if ur happy then job done. i've said before none of these cars stack up financially so it makes no odds what you pay for them really .i know many 3200s on here stand their owners 30k plus due to unforseen bills.hopefully there will be no suprises in the near future for you, due to it's soundness.

look forward to seeing it at a meet

regards

rob

Without knowing all the facts re the purchase /warranties/finance etc its hard to make a qualified judgement which is why i dont and wouldn't ,
I am  genuinely pleased for the guy, he obviously has a passion for these things and who am i to dampen that , A couple of grand  is all relative to how much we have to begin with , and if that was all it took to float his boat then he's a real lucky man in my book . Thats all it took to make him feel he has something really special and different to mr average good on him , thats the reason we all bought massers in the first place .

I have spent over £25k over the years chasing  black marlin caught nearly everthing else but , am i mad probably but its been my passion and in my book money very well spent      others on the breadline would feel different  but no one has ever put me down for  it   its our choice

regards loz

Great to see all the response from members, thanks for the encouragement, I have lived and breathed Maserati since 1985 so my eyes are wide open, and yes Rob, I hope there are no hidden problems.

Andrew (stats007), if you can turn one of these high milers into perfection for 5 grand, then I hope it's what you do for a living. Also all cars I have found private or trade have been 12k +, so if 10k is the norm then I must have missed them.

So Laurence, where is a good spot for black marlin?
