Hi

I am thinking of getting a touch up stick from Halfords to deal with the dreaded stone chips. By all accounts they can mix any colour but they need a four/five digit letter/number code. My paint colour is nero carbonio (year 2005) based on the underbonnet sticker but no sign of a code.

Any idea how I source the code?

Thanks

Take your door card off,  the paint number is written on the metal frame of the door.

Just kidding.

Your gonna trust Halfords to get the paint right?

I think it's hard enough for the dealers to get it right.

You could try this site, http://www.drcolorchip.com/   I am gonna give them a go at some stage.

I had some Nero Carbonio from Carr's in Exeter - £20 I think which is silly money. Halford's are fine in my experience as it's a third party system anyway.

Stone chips will always show to some degree when touched up with a stick.

I am game to try Halfords for two reasons:-

- They are local (in Scotland there are thin pickings for Masearti bits and pieces)
- As I am touching in tiny chips if the colour is a miss-match then I can stop after I do a trial chip.

On separate Ferrari threads people spoke in favour of Halfords - key is whether your individual paint person does it right.

So..............anyone know how I get the paint id code?

CheersI

Don't do it...wasted my money goind down this same road...the match was made by using a code book and the two look nothing like each other.

I may try yet depending on price, chips are so tiny I doubt a near miss colour would be noticeable and as I said I will do a test one first.

After putting Nero Carbonio into Google I turned up a reference to an Alfa GT in Carbonio Black (Nero) metallic with paint code 876/B. Given common ownership does anyone know if it is the same paint?

I thought the paint code was under the bonnet?

HOW many shades of grey?! who knew it was so chique ;)

I see no reason why halfrauds wouldn't be able to produce a suitable touch up stick. I generally don't like them but hey, it's a 3rd party system & they press the button.

I remember trying to get some touch up paint for my old 3200 Seebring Blue from Halfords.

Some spotty kid mixed me something which cost about £7 and was nothing like the colour on the car.

I won't bother going there again!

On my underboonet, paint wise, there is just a sticker that states Nero Carbonio - hand written into a box.

Thanks for the codes - will give it a go and report back.

I use Standox's paint system and have mixed Grigio Touring & Nero Carbonio and both have been spot on.

Went to Halfords on Friday night. The young guy allowed me to shoulder surf him while he used the PC and mixed the paint. All you need is the make, year and colour (mind you he had never heard of Maserati - "who makes that").

He was very diligent in mixing the paint, to the last drip, and the colour when eyeballed looked to be a good match, with a good metallic glisten to it.

I bought an ultra fine paint brush from an art shop and touched in on Saturday. The match was great and overall I am very pleased with the result. I am not claiming the colour match would be perfect for spraying a whole panel (but it might be) but for touch ups it was spot on.
