Hello,

I am a newbie - and I pick up my brand new Quattroporte S next Saturday (can't wait - just gotta sort the insurance out) and the dealer is offerring paint treatment and tyre insurance for £900.

In 20 years of driving I have never lost a tyre to a nail, but these tyres are pricey, so I dunno, and is the paint protection worthwhile?

Thoughts?

Not sure about the paint treatment, but I certainly wouldn't bother with the tyre insurance if I were you.

....even if your tyres cost £1,000,000 each, insurance over the past 20 years would have been un-necessary!

Ok - so tyre insurance is a no no

This is the most expensive car I have ever bought and the first new car I have ever bought - paint protection?

Still dreaming of the noise the thing made!

Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on your imminent aquisition. Wow! what colour is it? I agree with other comments on tyre insurance, particularly that the car comes with Maserati assistance, which will get you repaired or back to dealer for repair or replacement of a punctured or damaged tyre. The paint protection is what might be worth considering depending on which process - do you know which one? If you are someone who does not mind polishing your car with top products yourself, then I would do just that or having it detailed by a professional detailer yearly. However, if you are not, then a paint protection system is well worth considering of which there are many at varying prices. I have had many of my cars Diamondbrite treated, and this has certainly resisted stone chips and kept the cars gleaming without polishing, and have also resisted any car wash scratches, over many years. My Maserati is the exception, I regularly polish it with Autoglym products, including the hard gloss product option, and it never goes near a car wash, or hand wash cleaners. Have a scroll down the 'Car Care and Detailing' section of this Forum, which has further info on this subject. Hope this helps.

Thanks for this.........

Leaning toward yes for the paint treatment - prepared to pay £500 and no for tyre insurance.

The car is QP s in Grigio Afieri with 20" wheels, Red calipers, Black leather with white stitching and black piano wood, heated seats front parking sensors

It should not cost that much, Diamondbrite, which I personally think is one of the best, Armourguard, another, should be about £350 professionally applied with warranty (Diamondbrite 6 years). Suggest you google your local specialists . It is a 2 part process which seals the pores of the paint and gives like a teflon coating which is very hard wearing, resistant to the elements and gives a high gloss finish. It can be bought as a kit at about £100 for self application albeit without warranty. Another process by detailers is the Swissvax process which polishes out the paint to get rid of any swirls or marks and then professionally applied Canuba wax, and polished. All these processes do need to use the correct shampoos and top ups to retain in prestine condition.

Having spent many an hour talking to Valet Staff you would be surprised just how poor some cars are prepared prior to sale...as such any pait seal could lock in all the dirt that remained on the car per delivery.

I would recomend you contact one or more of the 'Proper' valeters and get their view on paint seals, then make up your mind. A few sponser the site by the way
