I have a 2002 3200GTA Grigio Alfieri which over the years has accumulated quite a few very minor scratches. I have been slightly afraid of tackling these because apart from it being metallic I am in Thailand & finding the correct product is not at all easy.
At the local auto factors I bought a tin of Sonax Auto Crème Lack Glanz with instructions in Thai & German (both of which are Greek to me). Tin comes complete with a sponge fitted in the cap & that rang the big alarm bell about other posts on the forum re: washing the car with a sponge! OK so am I going to be the only Maser owner with a panda colour scheme?
The compound is the colour of Brasso & the texture of custard, easy to apply & with the sponge it is difficult to use too much pressure & create more scratches than you take out. Perfect end result, all the minor blemishes gone & a high gloss finish. It can’t have cut the paint much as there was only a hint of grey on the sponge after I had done the whole car.
One thing it was no good on was the inevitable tar (asphalt) spots from hurtling through roadworks at more than the recommended crawl. After a quick search on  Google came up with peanut butter & mayonnaise as excellent tar spot removers. Now I am a foreigner living in Thailand & driving a Maserati, so my immediate family & a few of the neighbours would have me locked up if they saw me wasting food on a motor. So not fancying a straight jacket I looked a bit more & came up with baby oil – so armed with that & a hand full of cotton buds got rid of them all. A quick wipe after each one with a soft dry rag & the rat looks 100% better.

I always remove tar spot with diesel fuel.
It does not smell good but it's really efficient.
You can also use White Spirit solvent (less stinking but stinking anyway)

Hope this helps,
